Seasons'
Greetings by Alan Ayckbourn
The
action takes place in the home of Neville and Belinda Bunker,
somewhere in Middle England. Neville is a successful
electrical retailer. Belinda is …long suffering.
It
is 1978, 20 years ago. Jim Callaghan is Prime Minister, one
Margaret Thatcher is the new leader of the Opposition.
Distinctly dodgy hair styles, absurdly wide lapels, kipper
ties and even wider flares make fashion victims of us all,
including the still youngish Terry Wogan and Cliff Richard.
Grease
is the Hit Movie. The Bee Gees and disco are everywhere that
the Sex Pistols and Punk aren't. And as if this weren't
enough, the Smurfs, the Village People and Plastic Bertrand
are all in the charts. Plastic who …?
In
short it is the 'Winter of Discontent'. And to complete it in
style for the Bunker household, the Mother of All Family
Christmases is about to begin …
