Making your own Frames for

Paint Shop Pro 6 & 7

This is the frame that the tutorial will make

There are more Frames at the bottom of the page

The main purpose of this tutorial is show how to make  your own Frames for Paint Shop Pro.
Once you know how to save them you can make your Frames without using other peoples

Remember to save often in PSP format until we are done, then we will save it as a Frame

You may use any graphic or Texture.  I used the preset Sculpture Mahogany
on one of them it looks great (at the bottom)

This is VERY IMPORTANT .. these frames are made large so that you can use them for real
pictures.  Most of the ones that come with PSP are either 8x10 size or 5x7 size.  We will make
this one is 5x7 size.

PLEASE NOTE !! ... After making your frame and saving it for yourself, DO NOT send it in to your
group under the same format that you will save it as.  Also save it as RESIZED (smaller), make sure you
are viewing it under NORMAL VIEW so you can see the true size.  Save it jpg to send in to your group.

Right click on this graphic to save to your computer.
After saving double click on it to bring it up in PSP.  You may shrink it after you are working in PSP but you must have  it there so the flood fill can find it.

#1 .. Open new image at 360,504 .. 16 million colors, transparent background. (according to how much space you have in your workspace you may see this as small or as the normal view .. go to VIEW, and make sure you work in normal view so you can see what your frame looks like as you are working.

#2 ..  Flood fill  your new image with the Cork graphic that you saved. (you may use your own if you like)
PSP7 .. Hold your Left mouse button down on the 1st style button under the color pallet until you see this window  choose the image icon (circled in red) .. now click on the graphic on the style button and it will bring up another window, use the push bar to open the images that are in there.  Choose the one that says cork.  Left click on your working window and it will flood fill with the cork pattern.  Left hold on all of the other style buttons and put them on NULL or NO style.

PSP6 .. Click on your flood fill tool, in your tools option box choose pattern.  Click on the second page of the tool options box and then use the pull down menu to find your cork pattern. Left click on your working window to flood fill it with the cork pattern.

#3 .. Go to Selections, select all. (do not deselect until the tutorial calls for it)

#4 .. Selections, Modify, Contract, 15, Click OK

#5 .. Selections, Invert

#6 .. Apply the Inner Bevel Preset, Round (change the DEPTH to 3)
               PSP7 .. Effects, 3D, Inner bevel
PSP6 .. Image, Effects, Inner bevel

#7 .. Selections, invert

#8 .. Click your Copy tool  .. Now click delete your keyboard.

#9 .. Right click on the top of your working window and choose Paste as new Layer. This will put it right back where it was but you will be able to apply a bevel without it deforming any of the other bevels.

#10 .. Go to Selections, Modify, Contract 25,Click OK

#11 .. Go to Selections, Invert

#12 .. Apply the same inner Bevel as in step #6 .. Change the DEPTH to 12 and SHININESS to 25

#13 .. Go to Selections, Invert

#14 .. Click on your copy tool, then delete on your Key board, Then paste as new layer just like you did in step #9.

#15 .. Go to Selections, Modify, Contract 13

#16 .. Hit Delete on your Keyboard

#17 .. Go to Selections, Invert

#18 .. Apply a Bevel like you did in step 6, this time Use the Preset, FRAME.

#19 .. CTRL D on your keyboard to deselect.

#20 .. Go to Layers, Merge, Merge Visible

This should be your frame (yours could be really different if you used another graphic .. the main purpose of this tutorial is how to save the frame:)

This was mine for this Tutorial, I made it smaller so the page would load faster .. Now to save it.

#21 .. Go to FILE, SAVE AS .. Navigate to your PSP Folder, double click on it, Now find your FRAMES folder.  In the pull down menu where you choose the type of file you are going to save as , CHOOSE PAINT SHOP PRO (*.psp,*.jsl,*.pfr,*.tub) You must be in this file save format in order for it to save correctly.

Type in Cork as the name you are going to save it as (you may use uppercase letters here)  The type that you are going to save is pfr (lowercase letters) .. VERY IMPORTANT .. YOU MUST type in the name of your frame AND THE EXTENSION NAME .. MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE (PERIOD) between the name and the extension.  Mine was saved as Cork.pfr .. Click on Save

#22 .. Go to IMAGE, click on Picture Frame .. when that window comes up make sure that your new frame is there with the name you chose.  If it is not then follow the steps again as you may have missed one in saving.

To send to your Groups

Once you know that your frame works then you can save the one still on your screen to as a jpg to send to the group that you belong to.  You may want to resize it first.
Go to Image, Resize .. make sure that you have the items that I have circled here checked.  Then all you have to do is enter a number in the first box (highlighted here)  150 maybe a little small for you to show off what you did (that is what mine was set at for this tut:)  a good size would be about 250.  If you don't like it then you can CTRL Z to undo it.   If you are not going to send a picture to your group but just the frame, then go to Layers, Merge, Merge Flatten.  That will make it even smaller in size.
