This Tutorial will actually be for your name.
It was made as a special project for someone.
#1 Open a new image. 400 by 200 (yours may have to be a little longer if you have a long name, it doesn't really matter how big you make it as we will be putting the name into another window after we are finished) 16 million colors, transparent background.#2 I set my transparent background to white so that I can see what I am working on and so that everything shows the true colors like it will show on a web page. To do this go to FILE // PREFERENCES //GENERAL PROGRAM PREFERENCES.
Now Click on TRANSPARENCY (it should be on the back row, clicking will bring it forward) Use the second drop window and scroll up to WHITE, then click OK. This really does help when working with images that are hard to see on the normal transparent background.

#3 Set your Foreground color to a light color (NOT white!) Set your background color to a middle gray.
Turn off your 3rd and 4th style button's under the color pallets by holding down the left mouse button on one and choosing the little icon on the right (the null icon), then do it to the other one. You also need to set your first style buttons to PAINTBRUSH and the second button to IMAGE. After setting the buttons you can click once on the first one to choose your color. Then click on the second one and use the push window button to choose which image you are going to use. IF you use one of your own images make sure you have it in the window of PSP. It doesn't have to open and active, it can be minimized. If you do not have an image then choose one of the images that are built in. Like BRICKS, if you do use brick then turn the SCALE down to about 50 so they look like bricks in your name. NOTE!! make sure you put a check mark in the little box that says LOCKED .. it's a pain in the fanny to reset them all the time for different tools. (you can always uncheck it any time you want to)
NOTE!!! there are a couple of ways to get your "image" into your name. This is the PSP7 way. At the end you will find another way to do it, which is how I do it, because I have more control over what I want in the name.
#4 Use your TEXT tool // The first thing you want to do is set the size of the FOREGROUND line that will surround your text. Open your TOOL OPTIONS window and set it to a WIDTH of 2 with a line STYLE of #1 SOLID.
Click on the new window that we made to work in. You will see the text window pop up. Type your name into the text box. Then highlight it (SHIFT and back arrow until it is all highlighted) Now click on the Window to choose your Font size. I am using a size of 48, Now click on the Font TYPE window and Choose the font that you are going to use. If you are using the one that came with this tutorial then choose ROSENZWEIG. You want to check FLOATING (at the bottom) !!!! ALSO CHECK ANTI ALIAS .. I forgot to do it and the lazy side of me hopes you read this:)
#5 Use your keyboard and hit CONTROL D to deselect the text (you can also just right click to do the same:)
#6 Zoom in once (VIEW // ZOOM in by 1) so that you can see that little line that borders your name or text.
#7 Use your MAGIC WAND set to a Tolerance of 10. Touch one of the lines that is easy to see. You will see the selection around just part of your name unless you get REAL lucky:)
#8 Go to SELECTIONS // MODIFY // SELECT SIMILAR, now you should have ALL of the border around your name selected.
#9 Go to SELECTIONS // MODIFY // EXPAND by 1
#10 Go to EFFECTS // TEXTURE // SCULPTURE, use the preset that you downloaded earlier. It's called Wendy name border, Click OK
#11 Right click on the inside of the window to deselect.
Now you can apply any type of shadow that you would like if you want to. After applying your shadow then go to EDIT // COPY // PASTE AS NEW IMAGE and save it how you want to save it.

There are times that you may not want to use an image for the inside of your "text", in that case you would use a contrasting color as your background. After following all the steps for you name, use your MAGIC WAND and touch one of the "gray" areas inside one of the letters (I used gray, you can use any color you want)
After selecting the area go to SELECTIONS // MODIFY // SELECT SIMILAR
Click on the window that has your graphic that you want to use to fill the inside of your text. Go to EDIT // COPY
Go back to the window with your text. Go to EDIT // PASTE INTO SELECTION
Now follow the directions above to put the gold around your text.
I like this method better because I have more control over what the areas of a graphic that I want to fill with.
Use different Fonts and try different things .. also use DING's .. they work great this way. The Dings that are on either side of the Tutorial page are Ding's done in this method.
The main thing is to let your imagination go

Special note .. this tutorial was up on another site. It was not stolen. The young lady that I had written it for is named Wendy. She had special permission to use it for 3 weeks. It is now off of her site and back on mine. This Tutorial as of January 30th 2001 had never been worked by any group (at least to my knowledge) and was just used in a special project for Wendy while she learned to do somehting special. I know it doesn't make much sense to you .. but it does to me:) Just wanted anyone that may have seen it there to know that she did not steal it and not to send her nasty letters:)
