Tutorial for PSP6

This is what the tutorial will make

Well all I can say about this tutorial is to be careful!  When I came up with the idea I made the Clock with the Hummingbird.  Then went through my graphics folder and found SO MANY that would look good as clocks I just could not stop.  The best thing to do is to make a few in different styles, then resize them a LITTLE smaller and save them as tubes so you can use them in rooms.  I know that I always feel great when I make my own little things that go into rooms, that I thought maybe you would like it too:)  That said, lets get started!

How to save as a TUBE is under the clocks
on the bottom of the page:)

Save this picture to your computer.  You may use one that you have if you like.  This picture came from a Lady on a Graphics group that I am on.  The picture will be larger when you bring it up in PSP.  If you use your own image make sure it is no large than around 325, 325.

#1 .. Open new image 350, 350, 16 Million Colors, Transparent background

#2 .. Set your Foreground Color to 6B6158 and your back ground color to White
#3 .. Use your PreShapes Tool  set to Octagon,  Stroked & Filled, Antialias Checked, Line Width 9

#4 .. Now hold down your SHIFT key and starting in the top left corner at around 4 squares (transparency) in and 4 squares down Drag your mouse until you have a nice size with around four squares showing on the sides.  See the example, it is smaller than yours but you can see in red what you will see before you let go of the mouse.

#5 .. Use your Magic Wand  Tolerance 0, Feather 0 .. Touch the White inside of  your picture. Go to Selections, Modify, Expand 1, click OK

5a .. Open the clockfront picture that you downloaded.  Click on your copy button, then go back to your Clock window.

5b .. Go to Edit, Paste into selection.

5c .. Now use your Magic wand and click on the "brown" color of the outside of your clock.

#6 .. Go to Image, effects,  Inner Bevel and use the Preset FRAME .. leave all the settings the way they are and click OK.

#7 .. Change your foreground color to 4E3827, click OK.

#8 .. Use your Magic wand same settings, click on the OUTSIDE of the clock, in the transparent area.

#9 .. Go to Selections, Invert

#10 .. Go to Selections, Modify, Expand 15, click OK

#11 .. Add new layer, You can do this 3 different ways, click your Add new layer box  , Click on the white piece of paper icon in your Layer Palette, or go to Layers, Add new  Raster layer.

#12 .. Put this new layer on the bottom, then Flood Fill  with your foreground color (left click)

#13 .. Go to Layers, Merge, Merge Visible

#14 .. Use your Use your Magic Wand and select the new outer border that you just added to the clock.

#15 .. Go to Image, Effects,  Inner bevel and use the same settings as before.  The sample is smaller than yours.

Numbers & Hands of Clock

** Note .. If you have EyeCandy the Glass filter looks great on the numbers and the Hands.
#1 .. Add new layer, make sure it is on top.
#2 ..  Use your Text Tool   Now click on the clock .. and when your text box comes up choose a nice text, according to what text you use you may have to use a different size setting.  I am using Flat Brush, Size at 28, 0 Kerning and Leading.  Floating and Antialias should be checked.
2a .. Type the number 12 into the text area and click OK
Move the 12 into the #12 position on the clock.
Click on the clock face again and type in 6 this time, and put it where it belongs.  Do the same for the numbers 3 & 9.

2b .. After Placing the last number RIGHT click to deselect the number.

2c .. Go to Image, Effects, Inner Bevel, same settings as before (frame preset) Click OK

2d .. Go to Image, Effects, Drop Shadow, use these settings.  V&H are both 2, Opacity is 68, Blur is 4.9, Color is Black. Click OK

#3 .. Go to Layers, Merge, Merge Visible

#4 .. Add New Layer, make sure it is on top.

#5 .. Use your text tool, Change the size to one size smaller, make the #'s 1,2,4,5,7,8,10, & 11 .. Do them ONE at a time just like you did the ones before.

#6 .. When you are done with the last one right click to deselect it

#7 .. Do the Inner bevel and then the Drop Shadow that you did in #'s 2c and 2d.

#8 .. GO to Layers, Merge, Merge Visible.

#9 .. Use Your preshapes tool (should still be set to octagon) Change the Line Width to 2.

#10 .. Add New Layer

#11 .. In the corner where you can see it make a small Octagon (hold down the shift key so you get a nice even one)

#12 .. Go to Image, Effects, Inner bevel, use the PILLOW preset.  Click OK

#13 .. Use your mover tool to place it in the center of your clock.

#14 .. In your layers palette click on the Clock layer (it may say Merged)  Add new layer.  (this will put your new layer between the clock and the new little dot you just made.

#15 .. Use your Preshapes tool and set it for Triangle. Same settings as the "dot"

#16 .. Make Triangle, with the point pointing down, on the transparent part of your clock window.

#17 .. Now make another Triangle on top of that one, this one is point up.  (use CTRL Z if you don't get it the way you want it then do it again)

#18 .. Go to Effects, 3D, Inner Bevel and apply the Pillow preset to it.  Use your mover tool to move it to the center of the Clock.
(You may use the deform tool to set the time for what ever you want to set it too)

#19 .. Make sure you are on the "hand" layer and copy then paste as new selection into your picture .. Put it on the side on the transparent part by left clicking on the area.  While it is still selected go to Image, Rotate LEFT, 90 Click OK .. Now move it to the center of the picture, this is the "little" hand so you want to make it just a little smaller by putting a little more of it under the center circle.

#20 .. Use the draw tool set to Single Line, Width 4, Antialias Checked  .. draw a line from one a little on one side of the "dot" to the other side.  The line should at least go over the numbers just a little.

#21 .. Go to Layers, Merge, Merge Visible

That's it, your done, now save it how you would like to save it.

Unlike most of my Tutorials I did not Compress these Clocks,
I wanted them larger and clear so they could be seen better.

How to save as a Tube

If you are going to save this Clock as a tube  and you don't know how ..

After you are done with what you want as a clock, Then go to Layers, Merge, Merge Visible

Use your Magic Wand set to 0 Tolerance, 0 Feather, touch the transparent space on the OUTSIDE of your clock.  You will see "marching ants" going around the picture and on the outer area of the window.

Now go to Selections, Invert .. then to Image, and choose Crop to Selection .. CTRL D to deselect

Go to File, Export, Picture Tube  .. When that window opens leave everything the way it is and on the lower right hand side there is a space for you to put the name of the tube you are making.  I would name mine sher_clock_owl ... You can name yours what ever you like:)  You DO NOT have to put the extension on it as the program will do that.

Click OK .. that's it:)  You just made a tube:)  Now if you want to send the picture to the group just save it how ever you want, I always do mine as jpg because we can't use backgrounds so I don't worry about them being transparent.

If you do not save the picture as another type then after saving it as a tube and you try to close it it will ask if you want to save.  If your POSITIVE that it saved as a tube then close it, if not then use your tubes and find the clock and test it .. then you close the original and know that you still have your tube:)
