IDITAROD - The Last Great Race

Teacher/student program

Iditarod offers a great program for Teachers and their students to learn more about this race and what all is involved for the mushers and the race giving organization to hold this event. The program allows the students to follow the mushers along the trail on the website. There are games and different activities for the students to do. Often times you can find a local person who raises sleddogs to come into the class and give hands on information to the kids and answer questions and give demonstrations. They will often bring live dogs and sometimes real sleds for the kids to see and feel.

I am one who enjoys going to schools to help in presenting this educational program. In the pictures above and to the right is one of my Siberians - Sugar- shown here loving the attention from all the kids during a recent visit for Iditarod.

There are lost of links and information on the Iditarod website to learn more about this program for the classroom.
