WELCOME!

A little background about myself. When I was 18 years old I injured my back while carrying a case of coke bottles. At first I thought I had put my back out. But after a few months it got so bad that I couldn't walk unasisted. I'd been to my family doctor, an osteopath, a neurosurgeon, a pain specialist, and a few doctors of dubious quality in between. No one had a definitive answer, nor did most of them think my problem was "real". Many times I heard, "Physically there's nothing wrong with you." Boy, does that make a person see red! It would take me 10 years, and hundreds of doctors later, before I was finally diagnosed with FM or Fibromyalgia. A few years after that I was diagnosed with CFS or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as well.

By 1999 the pain of FM and the fatigue of CFS made it impossible for me to keep working. I felt useless. When you've always held a job, and suddenly find you can't even dress yourself without help, you need to feel useful in some way. That's when I decided to record my thoughts, my activities, my life. To let people with FM-CFS know what they were feeling was normal for someone with Fibromyalgia and/or CFS. I'd like to think something positive has come out of being sick for the last 28 years.

One positive thing to come out of all of this is my FM-CFS Resources site. It's loaded with information about FM and CFS, along with listings for support groups near you, answers to your disability questions, as well as a survey to fill out.

Each year in my journal is linked above. I hope you enjoy your visit, and if you've got some extra time I'd love to have you sign my guestbook!
