You pick up the paper and read about the people in South Carolina fighting over a symbol of racial hatred, and they call it honoring they're forefathers. More than 160 years have passed since the Civil War began, but you still have people (misguided as they are) believing that the Confederate flag has nothing to do with slavery or the horrible way our black americans were treated. Here in Florida we have a Governor that claims he cares about the minorities, as he shamelessly abolishes the laws of equal rights for minorities. He sits in his office dealing out laws that only he finds worthwhile. When a select few have the courage to stand up to him, our Governor refuses to even speak to these people. He quickly passes a law shortening the amount of time death row inmates are allowed appeals, even after he's been given proof that more than 20 innocent men on death row would be dead today if his policy was active at that time. Then there are the everyday situations we all come across. The people who have lost any manners they may or may not have been raised with. Just the common courtesies we all grew up with that seem to be forever lost...opening doors for those following behind us....waiting our place in line and not barging up to the front...using a handicap parking spot only if you actually ARE handicapped...patiently waiting for someone instead of instinctively reaching for the horn...or stopping to see if the person you just hit is ok, rather than speeding off!!! It scares me to think that our world has become so blase that no one seems to notice how we've all changed. Today was a perfect example of that for me. My Mom, my nephew Brian, and I spent the day together. Brian and I had dropped my Mom off for her nail appointment. Then we headed over to the grocery store to pick up a few items. As I was paying for the groceries Brian says to me, "there's Grandma." Sure enough, I looked up and there was my 76 year old mother waiting by the front door. She had been notified by her nail lady (quite rudely) that my mother had the wrong appointment time (even tho it had been written for 10am today by the nail tech last week). Since my nephew and I had already left, she had hoped to catch us at the store (across a 6 lane highway). I cringed as she told me that she'd almost been hit by a driver crossing the busy highway. She said when she'd first started across there was no traffic in sight. But half way across the highway a car came at her, never slowing, as he blared the horn for her to move it along. My mother had knee surgery done a year ago and has never been the same since. Normally she can only walk a few yards before she is unable to go any farther. I stood there (still in shock) as I listened to how she managed to get to the grocery store. I'm sure if she hadn't been completely pissed about getting screwed out of her nail appointment, she would have never had the determination to succeed in such a long walk. We all agreed that a good lunch would make us all feel better, so we headed for Arby's. My Mom and I have a tradition of getting our food at Arby's, then driving 3 blocks down the road and eating along the Intercoastal Waterway. It's such a lovely view of the water and the boats, and it's so peaceful there. As I was waiting at the corner to make my turn, a guy hit me from behind. I immediately yelled out the window at him that he'd just hit me. I saw him turn around and look out his back window at me, then he took off. This isn't the first time I've been in a car that was hit, and then the driver took off. (This happened to my ex husband and I several years ago). I grabbed a piece of paper and immediately wrote down the license number of the pick-up truck that hit me. My Mother affirmed that the truck was red. I drove down the street to the park along the intercoastal and called my brother at work. Although he'd gone to lunch, his secretary was helpful in getting me the phone number of the local police department. I called the cops and reported that I'd been in a traffic accident, and that the man had left the scene of the accident. A cop was sent and I gave him my statement. I had been brought up believing that leaving the scene of an accident was against the law. HA! Only if you're caught by a cop. After talking to this cop I was told that they would attempt to contact the owner of the truck, but if he claimed he'd not been involved in this accident there was nothing they could do since the cop himself hadn't witnessed the accident. I was flabbergasted. I asked if I'd been mistaken thinking that leaving the scene of an accident was a crime. His response was..."yeah, but it's only a misdemeanor." I wonder if I'd shot at the guy who hit me and run off would be considered a misdemeanor. Who knows these days! ![]() ![]() I got a phone call from this guy Tuesday morning. He claimed he didn't know he'd hit me. That's strange, because I felt the whole car move sideways when he hit me, how could he not feel his car move sideways as well? I'm sure if I hadn't gotten his license number I would have never heard from the guy. This afternoon I decided I needed a break from dealing with this whole car thing, so my Mom and I went to one of the flea markets here. We'd strolled through the place for an hour or so when I saw there was a psychic reader there. I've always been interested in this type of thing and I figured what the hell, I'd have my fortune told. Going in there I really hadn't expected much, but after having my palm read, my numbers done and having a tarot reading I was amazed at what she'd come up with. My "present" tense showed a man who advises me and is special to me. When she finished describing this man it resembled my oldest brother perfectly. She said she sees me meeting a man at a party or social gathering. When we meet it will be as if we are long lost lovers, or soul mates. She claimed that this mystery man and I will hit it off immediately. Another thing she saw in the cards was that I had an illness that I'd had since I was young. I said yes I had FMS, I'd been 1 8 yrs old when I got it. She said this illness will get better for a while. She also mentioned that I'd had a small child or baby that was coming into my life. I said yes that my oldest niece and her husband were moving here and they had a 3 ys old daughter. Once my reading were over it was my mom's turn. The way she described my mother was eerie. Every component about my mother she had down pat. She mentioned that my mother had lost 3 men and one woman that were very special to her. She had, she'd lost her father & mother, my father, and a baby boy many years ago. She said that my mother would be instrumental in helping to shape my love life with this mystery man I'm to meet. This woman also mentioned to my mom that she had many psychic abilities as well. Anyone who knows my mother knows this. She's been quite accurate and predicting events no one could possibly know. We spent a good 2 hours with this psychic reader. We both walked away amazed at how accurately she had predicted things about each of us. She predicted a few other things that involve other people, and I won't share those here. But all in all it was a remarkable experience, and one that I'll try again in the future. ![]() | |||||
