Scrapbook
supplies
All your supplies need to be archival, which means acid and
lignin free. If you are not sure that they are acid free, use a
acid-testing pen to test them. Finding
papers: The craft department of your local store may have a supply of
scrap book papers, Most of the stores in my area have a very limited
choice. But there are plenty of other sources. Look in the stationary
department. They will probably have card stock there. It is usually
cheaper than the scrap book papers and is acid free. Just be sure to read
the label. If you plan to use computer generated images, be sure that your
paper is acid free. I have found that most of what is in the stationary
aisle can be used in scrapbooks. There are also many on-line sources for
supplies. One of my
favorite companies is Creative Xpress, if you join their club, you get a
free package of papers with every order over $15. To join the club, you
just have to purchase a T-Shirt. Die
Cuts: These are used to decorate your pages, for journaling or as
frames. Usually they are just cut out shapes of one solid color. You
can use pens, markers or chalk to decorate them. Stickers:
Again found in the craft department. You can also find them in the card
and stationary departments of most stores. There are many online sources
if your choices are limited as they are in my area. Stickers are used for
accenting pages. Paper edgers
and punches: Use the scissors to trim your photos, frames or die cuts.
There are many shapes available. I prefer to use Fiskars brand edgers.
Punches are another hard to find item where I live, but again on-line is a
good place to look. There are lots of shapes to choose from. By combining
punched out shapes you can create all kinds of things. Glue:
I prefer to use 2two way glue on my pages, but any acid free glue stick will
do. You can also use mounting tape and photo corners. You should not use
scotch tape. Page
protectors: It is a good idea to use these to keep your precious pages
from being damaged. Albums
come in post bound, strap
bound, and spiral.
