Eric and Greta Fan Fiction
Chapter One

I wasn't happy with the way Eric and Greta's relationship was rapidly deteriorating so I decided to write my own to satisfy myself.  This starts at the time when Greta went to talk to Eric and give him another chance, following Austin's advice. But this time, Nicole won't succeed in getting Eric back.

Eric was standing in his apartment, looking at the movie, when he heard a soft knock at the door.  He set it down behind some things and quickly went over to answer it.  He pulled it open to see Greta standing there, her hand poised to knock again.
"Eric..." she said, startled.
"Greta, I'm so glad you're here" he said, smiling at her.  She visibly relaxed a little at his words and smiled back at him.
"Really?" she asked.  He laughed as he took her arm and pulled her inside.
"Of course, what's going on?" he asked.  "To what do I owe the honor of this visit?"
"Well, I was talking to Austin-about us" she said.  She saw him frown slightly and she quickly continued.  "And, well...we need to talk"
"Ok, that's fine" he said, motioning to the couch.  He sat down and she sat at the other end of the couch.  "Can I get you something?  Water or soda or something?"
"No, I'm fine" she said, quickly.  She looked a little nervous to Eric and he watched as she brought her hand to her mouth and nervously started to bite her nails.
"Greta, what is it?" he asked, reaching over and pulling her hand away from her.  "Calm down, please.  Whatever it is, I'm sure we can work it out".
"Eric, the past couple of months..." she started and then stopped.  She took a deep breath and tried again.  "You know I'm not good at relationships and things like that.  So maybe I jumped to conclusions when I thought that...well, that you and I were..."  She put her head down and her hair covered her face, trailing off at the end of her sentence.
"Were what?" he asked, reaching over and pushing her hair out of her face.  "Greta, please tell me".
"Well, that you and I were...you know" she said, looking into his eyes for a second and then looking down again.
"A couple?" he asked.  She nodded.  "Before I answer you, what put this into your head?  You never really asked before".
"I was talking to Austin and he said that I really shouldn't have gotten mad at you the other night-with the whole Nicole incident" she said.  "He said that maybe you and I never were exclusive and that I was just jumping to conclusions".
"So that's what you needed to find out?" Eric asked, a small smile forming around his lips.
"Well, yeah, I think I have a right to know" she said.  "I mean, if you want to see other people, that's fine.  Or if not...well, whatever.  I just need to know so I don't get too involved here"
"To answer your question, no, we never made it official" Eric said.  "It was kind of implied-which was maybe a bad thing.  But I'd like to make it 'exclusive' at some point, like you would say".
"I would too" Greta said.  "But before we do that, I need some things settled between us.  Mainly, with Nicole".  Eric swallowed hard as he tried to calm himself.
"Well, ok" he said.  "Go ahead"
"Eric, I know that you and Nicole had something very special at some time" she started.  "And I understand that.  But sometimes I feel like she has the upper hand in our relationship.  But I'm almost positive that she's still in love with you.  And sometimes-even though I don't want to-I think you might have feelings for her too".
"Greta, first off, Nicole and I did have something special" Eric said.  "But that ended the day she left me for Lucas.  Nicole was my past.  And, hopefully, you'll be my future"  Greta looked up at him slowly and Eric gave her a small smile.  He raised his arms slightly and Greta threw herself into them.
"Eric, I'm so happy" she said, into his shirt.  They stayed still for a long time, just enjoying being close to each other again.  "But Eric, wait" she said after a few minutes, pulling away from him.
"What?" he asked, softly.
"Eric, I don't want this to happen again. Us fighting like this" she said.  "I mean, what can we do to keep this from happening again?"
"This" he said, looking at her.  She looked at him questioningly.  "We need to talk more, to let each other know what's going on so nobody gets carried away or misunderstood.  We need to do what we just did-communicate.  Greta, I want to know what upsets you and if I do something that makes you happy.  Hell, I want to know everything about you".  Greta smiled at him as Eric lightly dragged his fingertips down her cheek.  She closed her eyes and they sat in silence till the phone rang, bringing them both back to reality.
"Who could be calling so late?" Greta asked.
"I don't know, but I better get it" Eric said, hopping off the couch.  He went over and picked up the phone.  "Hello?" he asked.
"Eric" the voice on the other end said.  "It's me, Nicole"
"What do you want?" he asked, bruntly, as he turned his back to Greta.
"Nice to hear from you too" she said.  "So I'll get right to the point-we need to talk"
"Sorry, I'm busy" he said.
"Eric it's important" she answered him.
"Not too important that it can't wait till tomorrow" he said.  "I'll talk to you tomorrow at the office" he said, hanging up while he could hear her protesting while he hung it up.
"Who was that?" Greta asked, when he turned back to her.  Eric weighed his answers.
"Work" he finally said.  "Nothing too important though" he said, as he went back over to the couch.  "Now, where were we?" he asked.  Greta laughed and slid into his arms again.  He ran his hands through her hair and tilted her head up to kiss her lightly.  Greta turned to face him better when the phone rang again.
"I'll get it!" she said, jumping off the couch.  Eric started to protest but she picked the phone right up.  "Hello?" she said.
"Is Eric there?" an impatient, female voice said.  She figured out quickly that it was Nicole.
"Yeah, but he's kinda busy right now-can I take a message?" she asked, taking the phone with her as she went back to the couch.
"Actually, Greta, it's important, so get him" Nicole said.  Greta rolled her eyes as she put her hand over the mouthpiece.
"It's Nicole" she said.
"Tell her I'll see her tomorrow at work" he said.
"But she sounds upset, talk to her" Greta said.  She was willing to give Nicole the benefit of the doubt.
"I don't want to" Eric said, simply.
"Maybe something's wrong" Greta said.  "I don't want you to stop being friends with her and it sounds like she needs you.  But if I'm wrong, just tell her you have to go"
"Fine" Eric said.  "But don't go thinking you can tell me what to do from now on" he joked.
"Yeah, right, I know I have you wrapped around my little finger" she said, laughing.  Eric took the phone from her and pulled her close to him again.
"What?" he said into the phone.  Greta elbowed him for his rudeness.
"So Greta's there?  Things still not working out between the two of you?" Nicole said.  "I mean, like the way things were between us"
"Nicole, get to your point" Eric said.
"Fine" she said.  "Like I said before, we need to talk.  It's really important.  I'm being completely serious too."
"What can be this important?" Eric asked, worrying a little because she sounded serious.
"I think I'm finally ready to tell you about my past" she said.  "And, well, it might affect my future now"
"Are you talking about those tests?" he asked, now a little concerned.  She sniffled on the other end.  "Can we talk tomorrow?"
"No, Eric, I need someone now!  I need you now" she said.
"Hold on" he said, pressing his finger on the mute button.  Greta looked up at him.
"What's going on?" she asked.
"Nicole wants to talk to me.  She says it's important and she just had those tests done and..." Eric said.
"Go to her, she needs you" Greta said.
"But we need our time too" Eric said.  Greta shook her head at him.
"No, go" she said.  "We have plently of time.  But maybe something's seriously wrong"  Eric lifted the phone to his ear again.
"Ok, what time?" he asked.  Nicole smiled to herself on the other end-her plan was working.
"I'll be over at your place in a few minutes" she said.
"No, not here." Eric said.  "I don't trust you here"  Nicole rolled her eyes.
"Ok, fine, where then?" she said.
"At the park, in like 15 minutes" he said.  He hung up before she could say anything else.  "Better be pretty damn important" he muttered.
"Eric, don't jump to conclusions" Greta said. "She just had all those tests done, maybe she got a result that's not good.  And she needs somebody"
"Isn't that what her husbands for?" he asked.
"Eric, just do it, ok?" she said.  "I trust you.  And it would just be really stupid and immature of me not to let you help a friend"
"But Greta, we need this time together" he protested.  "I mean, we're just making up and now we're interrupted.  We still have more to talk about"
"We'll talk tomorrow" she said, sitting up and starting to pull on her shoes.  "Just take care of this now and then it'll be done with"
"You're too nice" he said, watching her.  She stood up and stretched.  "Hey, why don't you just wait here till I get back?  I'm sure I won't be long"
"No, I'm tired." she said.  "I'll go home and get plenty of sleep so I'll be full of energy for tomorrow"
"Ok" he said, disappointed, as he followed her to the door.  He opened it and she slipped out under his arm.  She started to walk away.  "Hey, wait" he said, grabbing her arm.  He pulled her back and kissed her on the lips.  She smiled as they pulled away.
"Night Eric" she said, turning to leave.
"Night" he said, watching her leave.  Once she was out of sight, he groaned when he thought of putting up with Nicole.  "You have to be strong, Brady" he said to himself.  "You can't hurt Greta again.  She isn't going to sit around and wait for you.  Plus she's a married woman now.  Just go and see her.  Get it over with and then you can concentrate on your future with Greta".  He smiled, thinking of her, as he turned to grab his car keys.
