Eric and Greta Fan Fiction
Chapter Four

Greta sat down on the edge of her bed with a smile.  Her gaze traveled across the bed over the half-filled suitcase and the discarded outfits thrown around it.  With a sigh, she stood up again and began to decide on clothes again.  Eric hadn't told her where they were going and she wasn't sure how to pack for it.  She was debating between two pairs of jeans when she heard a knock at the door.
"Hold on!" she yelled, going to set the clothes she held in her arms on the bed.  There was another, louder knock and she called out again for them to wait.  She went to the door and slid it open with her back, since her arms were full.  She turned into the living room and ran straight into a tall figure-Eric.  She jumped and almost dropped all the clothes.
"Eric!" was all she could say.
"Sorry to frighten you but the door was open" he said, motioning to the front door.
"It's ok, you just startled me" she said, turning back to the bedroom.  Eric caught her arm and pulled her in for a kiss.  When he pulled away, she smiled and went into her room to finally drop the heavy clothes.
"Are you packed yet?" he asked, looking at her overflowing bed.
"Well, sort of" she said.  "It would be a little easier if you gave me a tiny hint about where we're going..."
"Nope, it's a suprise" he said.  "But this looks ok to me.  Just make sure to pack something warm...and a bathing suit".
"But where would we go that would require both of those?" she asked, perplexed.
"You'll see" he said, with a grin.  She pouted.  "This is too much fun.  So get your stuff together so we can get going".  She added a sweater and a sweatshirt and threw in a bathing suit and Eric helped her zip her bag up.  She made sure all the lights were off and that her answering machine was on.  They went out into the hall and she locked the door behind her.

After Eric loaded all their bags into his car he climbed in next to her and started it up.
"Here we go" he said with a grin.  Greta smiled as she settled back into her seat.  He got onto the highway and drove for sometime.  Greta recognized a familiar landsite and watched it go past.
"The exit for Green Mountain was back there" she said, pointing out the window.
"We're not going to Green Mountain, my dear" he said, smiling.
"Then where are we going?" she asked.
"You'll find out in about...2 hours" he said, looking at the clock.  "Oh, I almost forgot" he said.
"What?" she asked, slightly concerned.  He didn't answer but got into the right lane and pulled off at the next exit.  "What did you forget?"  She wasn't answered until they pulled into the parking lot of a convenience store.
"We forgot road trip food" he said, with a grin.  Greta laughed and got out of the car behind him.  Inside, he turned to her.
"I'm going to run to the bathroom, this is the last stop until we get there".  She went in the ladies room and used it and freshened up a little.  She came out to find him waiting with his arms full by the cash register.
"What did you get?" she asked.  He held up two bottles of soda, a pack of gum, and two bags of licorice.
"I hope you like licorice" he said.
"Love it" she said.
"Good, it's the best food for driving" he said.  After he insisted on paying, they went back to the car and started off again  Greta opened her soda and took a long sip of the cold liquid.
"Open up the candy" Eric said, coming to a stop at a red light near the exit onto the highway.  She did and he turned to her with his mouth open.  She laughed and put a piece of it in his mouth.  "Mmm, good" he said, his mouth full.
"Is it?" she asked, getting a piece for herself.
"Yeah, but I know what's better" he said, leaning in and gently placing his lips on hers.  She kissed him back until a horn blew behind them.  Eric jumped up and accelerated when he saw that the light had turned green.  Greta blushed when the car behind them passed them on the highway, the driver shaking his head at them.
"He must have seen us kissing" Greta said, a little embarrassed.
"Must be jealous then" Eric answered her.  He was interrupted by his cell phone ringing.  Greta reached up on the dashboard for it.
"Don't answer it" Eric said, abruptly.
"Why not?" she said.
"Cause we're trying to get away from everyone and..." he said but Greta still picked it up.  She saw the number flashing on it and quickly recognized it as one from Titan.
"It's Nicole" she said, holding it out to him.
"I had a feeling..." he said, quietly.
"Answer it then" she said.
"No way!  Let it ring" he said.  "I don't care what she wants"  Greta sighed.
"I know but she's your boss.  Maybe it's important" she said, trying to give her the benefit of the doubt.
"I doubt it" Eric said.  The phone kept ringing, five, six times.  Greta grew impatient.
"Oh, what the hell" she said, as she picked it up and pushed the Talk button.
"Hello?" she asked, sweetly.
"Is Eric there?" Nicole forcefully asked her.
"He's busy right now, can I take a message please?" Greta asked.
"I know you're lying Greta, put him on the phone" Nicole said.
"But he's busy" Greta insisted.
"Greta, this isn't a childish game here, this concerns Eric's job-and his future here at Titan" she answered.  Greta rolled her eyes and held her hand over the mouthpiece.
"She says it's imporant" she said.
"Nothing's that important" Eric answered.
"But it concerns your job" Greta said.  Eric thought for a minute and looked over to see Greta's worried face.
"Hey" he said, gently.  "I promise, she won't ruin our weekend-I won't let her".  With that, he took the phone from her.
"What Nicole?" he asked.
"Eric, I need you to come home again" she said.  "We need you here"
"Nicole, you know I called off for the weekend" Eric said. "Get someone else"
"But you're the best we have" she protested.
"I don't care, get someone else" he said.
"Besides Eric, I need to know what happened today-with your tests" she said.
"That's no concern of yours" he said.
"Yes, it is" she answered.  "I care about you"
"Nicole, if you cared about me so damned much, you wouldn't have put me in the situation in the first place" he said.  "So I'm hanging up...take care of things at work and I'll be back on Monday"
"Eric..." she started to protest.  He pulled the phone away from his ear and pressed the end button, finally shutting her up.  He set the phone down and looked over to see Greta staring silently out the window.  He reached over and took her hand.
"Eric, there's an exit coming up in about a mile" she said quietly.  "Why don't we turn around and go back"
"What?  Why?" he said.
"Because, she doesn't give up that easily" she said. "I may have won this battle but the war isn't over.  She isn't giving up on you"
"I don't care" he said.  "We need this time together, to get away from all the distractions and concentrate on ourselves and our future.  This weekend is all about Eric and Greta...and all the wonderful things that will come out of us being together...ok?"  She smiled and nodded.
"Good" he said.  "I'd like to turn my cell phone off but I want to keep it on just in case someone really does need to get in touch with me.  But we won't pick up on any more phone calls from Titan"
"Ok" she said.  "But Eric" she said, a few minutes later.  "What were you talking about with her on the phone, something about her caring about you and putting you in a bad situation?"  Eric sighed.
"Something happened" he said.  "I just found out about something that you need to find out about.  But not yet-this isn't the right time"
"But when Eric?" she asked, concerned.
"This weekend, when the time is right" he said.  "But don't worry...things are ok but you still need to know"  Greta nodded and a small yawn escaped from her.  "Tired?" he gently asked.
"Yeah" she said.  "I didn't sleep well last night"
"Why?" he asked.
"Because I was too excited about today and this weekend" she said, with a small embarrassed smile.  Eric lifted his arm and pulled her up against him.
"It'll be fun, I promise" he said.  "So close your eyes and rest up.  I'll wake you when we're there"
"Ok" she said, her eyes already closing, as Eric continued driving down the highway.
