Greta woke up some time later by Eric gently shaking her awake. She stretched and looked around to see that his car was sitting on the side of the highway with cars whizzing by. "Eric, what's wrong? What happened?" she asked, suddenly awake. "Nothing, don't worry, I just pulled over" he said. "But why?" she asked. He grinned and pulled a bandana from his pocket. "Cause this is were the fun part starts" he said. "We're almost there but it's a surprise" "Eric, I'll get carsick" she protested, holding her hand up. "The exit is just around the bend here, trust me" he said. "You'll only be blindfolded for a few minutes. C'mon, trust me". She shook her head as he pulled her hair off her face and tied it around her head. "Ok, how many fingers am I holding up?" "Umm, two?" she guessed. Eric groaned. "It was a guess, Eric! I can't see anything". She heard him laugh as he started the car up again. They drove and she felt them turn off a minute down the road and then a few minutes later the road got bumpy. "Eric, where are you taking us?" she asked, holding onto the car handle so she wouldn't lose her balance. "You'll see" he said, and she felt the car slow down. She reached for the bandana but he stopped her. "I'll be right back" he said. "No peeking!". She heard the door open and close and she leaned back in her seat and waiting. *I have to look ridiculous to anyone who see me* she thought to herself with a smile. After a few minutes, the car shook again as Eric climbed back in. "Can I look yet?" she asked. "Just a minute more!" he said, starting the car again. They drove down the bumpy road for a few minutes later and then Eric parked it. "Now, wait for me" he said, getting out. She heard him come around to her side of the car and open the door. He took her hand and helped her out and slammed the door. She inhaled and the air smelled smoky, but she couldn't quite place where she recognized it from. Eric led her by the hand a little bit further and then stopped her. "Can I look yet?" she asked, impatient. "Just a minute" he said. She felt him come around behind her and put his arm around her waist. She then felt him loosen the bandana and she squinted into the light. Once her eyes adjusted, her jaw dropped. "Eric, it's so...cute!" she said, at a loss for words. They were in the middle of the woods and there was a tiny log cabin in front of them. He laughed at her and started to pull her inside. They went up on the porch and he unlocked the door. He held the door for her and she slipped inside and put on a light. The entrance led into a small living room that held a couch, a few chairs, and a huge fireplace. There were two doors near the back, one leading to a small bathroom and the other leading to the bedroom. It had a huge bed covered with a beautiful quilt and a few pieces of wooden furniture. "Eric, it's beautiful" she said, turning around to him after she had peeked around. "I'm glad you like it" he said. '"Where are we though, I never knew there was a place like this near Salem" she said. "My parents took me here once a long time ago and I always wanted to come back but I had to wait till I found a special person to share it with" he said. She smiled and went over and wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him. "Well, it's perfect" she said. "Good" he said. "Stay here, I'm going to go get our bags". Greta went over to the window and peeked out. There were tons of trees around her and there were still birds singing in the early evening air. She saw something glittering behind the trees and looked harder and thought she saw water. "Eric, what's over behind the trees?" she asked, when he came back with his arms full. "Oh, I almost forgot! There's a lake down the hill a little" he said. "Eric, this is so special, I don't know how I can ever thank you enough" she said. "You're here with me, that's payment enough" he said, pulling her into his arms again. They stood for a few minutes, looking out the window, till Greta felt his stomach growl. "Are you hungry again?" she asked. "Yeah" he said. "When aren't I? We'll get cleaned up a little and then go eat" "Where at?" she asked. "You'll see" Eric said. She groaned and went to the bathroom where she brushed out her hair and cleaned up a little. They then left their tiny cabin and started down the path. They walked down the rocky path until the water was in front of them. "See why you needed a bathing suit now?" Eric asked. "It all makes sense now" Greta said, taking his hand as they walked along the lake. The sun was starting to set and they stood and watched as the sun dropped lower and lower until it seemed to sit on the edge of the lake. Eric gently kissed the back of her neck and she shivered to herself at how amazing the whole atmosphere was. The moon was soon visible and they hurried along the shoreline to get some food. They passed a few other cabins along the way until they came to a larger one that was set close to the water. Eric lead them inside to where there was a tiny restuarant. They sat down, among another couple and a few small families that were also staying there. They quickly at the delicious food and then hurried through the chilly air back to their cabin. Eric unlocked the door and they slipped in. "I feel like we're playing house" she said. Eric laughed. "You never know, maybe someday we will" he said. He threw himself down on the couch and she curled up next to him, kicking off her shoes and pulling his off too. He laid back a little and pulled her closer to him, breathing in the smell of her perfume. "Eric, I'm so glad we decided to come here and get away for a little bit" she said. "I'm so glad you gave me a second chance" he said. "Eric, we're not talking about Nicole anymore for the rest of the trip, remember?" she said, sitting up. "I wasn't going to" he said, pulling her back down to him. "She's the farthest thing from my mind right now". Greta smiled and laid her head down on his chest, listening to his heartbeat as he breathed softly. She picked her head up when he yawned then. "Are you tired?" she asked, brushing a piece of hair off his face. "Just a little, not all of us got a nap on the way over" he said, with a grin. She playfully hit him and he held her hands and gently tickled her stomach. She squealed and tried to pull away but he held her tight. "Eric, no, please!" she begged, trying to pull away. "Talking won't make me stop" he said, laughing at her. "Then how can I make you...oh, I get it" she said, with a grin. She leaned in close and kissed him on the tip of his nose. "Nope, try again" he said, in almost a whisper. She smiled and teasingly kissed him gently on the cheek. "Still not the right place" he said, barely audible. She closed her eyes and let her lips gently drag down his cheek until they reached his lips. He smiled into the kiss and she almost laughed but he pulled her close again. They stayed this way for awhile, losing track of time, as the moon continued climbing through the sky. |
