Shawn and Belle Fan Fiction
"Untitled"
Chapter Two

"Wait, wait, wait" Shawn said, motioning with a french fry.  "I'm confused-I keep mixing up allusion and allegory".  Belle sighed.
"Ok..." she said.  "Allegory is a narrative where everything represents something and allusion is a reference to something the reader should recognize"
"Wait, I thought that was an anecdote" Shawn said, a grin starting to spread across his face.  Belle saw that he was joking and flung a french fry at his face.  He picked up his milkshake and got up, acting like he was going to dump it on her when his grandmother came up from behind him and slipped it out of his hand.
"How's the studying going?" she asked, setting the drink on the table.
"Going good, I think I've got it" Shawn said, sliding back into the booth.
"Great!  How about another round of milkshakes to celebrate?" she said.
"Sounds great, thanks" Belle said, picking up her notebook.  Caroline walked away and she scanned down the list of words.  "Ok, Shawn, your question for $100,000 is...what's an antagonist?"
"Easy" he said.  "The thing in a story that causes conflict"
"Correct" she said.  "And for the million...what's a simile?"  Shawn opened his mouth to answer but Belle's cell phone rang, interrupting them.  "Hold that thought" she said, pulling it from her purse.  "Hello?"
"Belle?" she heard Mimi say.
"Hey Meems, what's up?" she asked.
"Nothing, what are you doing?" Mimi asked.
"Just studying with Shawn so I can't talk long" she said.  "So what did you need?"
"Saturday.  Salem Place.  Buying costumes for the dance" Mimi said.
"Mimi, I told you, I'm not going" she said.
"Uh huh, you say that now" she said.  "But I have to run-twelve o'clock on Saturday.  Be there!"  With that, she hung up.
"Who was that?" Shawn asked.
"Mimi" Belle said.  "Nothing important"
"Ok, cool" Shawn said.  "Now back to English..." He was again interrupted by her cell phone.
"Sorry!" she said, reaching back in her purse.
"It's ok, I'm going to hit the men's room" he said, sliding out.
"Hello?" she asked, a little impatient this time.
"Belle, sweetie, where are you?" she heard her mom say.
"Oh, Mom, I'm sorry, I meant to call!" she said.  "I'm at the Brady Pub"
"With who?" she asked.
"Shawn...we're studying" she quickly added.
"Ohh..." her mom said, smiling.
"Mom, we're seriously studying cause we have a quiz tomorrow" Belle said.  "But I'll be home by dinner, ok?" she said, seeing Shawn coming back.
"Ok, have fun sweetie" her mom said, hanging up.  Shawn threw himself back in his seat.
"No more interruptions?" he asked.
"No more, I promise" she said.
"Well, actually, I think I've got it all" he said, looking over their list.  "Thanks for the help though, I don't think I could have learned it all alone"
"Not a problem" she said, shutting her book.  She picked up the rest of her hamburger and started munching on it.  "So how's your little brother doing?"  A grin spread across his face and Belle couldn't help smiling as she saw how much he really cared for him.
"I think he's getting better" Shawn said.  "He's not as fussy anymore and he's sleeping better.  But we're tight still".  Belle laughed as she finished her burger and caught a glimpse of her watch.
"I better go, it's almost dinner time" she said, starting to gather her things.
"Well, I'll walk you home" he said.
"Shawn, I'm seriously fine alone" she said, shoving everything in her backpack.
"Hey" he said, holding his hand out to help her up.  "It's my pleasure".  They said their good-byes to everyone and Shawn held the door open as they stepped into the brisk, fall air.
"I don't want to pry or anything" Shawn said.  "But while you were on the phone, did you tell Mimi that you weren't going to the dance?"
"Yeah" Belle said.  "It's really not a big deal, I'm sure my parents will be happy to know they won't have to spend any money on this one".  Shawn studied her carefully. "What?" she asked.
"C'mon, Belle, tell me the truth" he said.  "I know you want to go"
"No, you don't know that" she said, walking a little faster.
"Belle, you were all about the dance last year, not to mention your hysteria over the Last Blast" he said.  "So what's up?  You can tell me"
"Shawn, I'm dead serious, I don't want to go" she said.  She stepped into the street, not paying attention, and he grabbed her arm and pulled her back as a car zoomed past.
"Belle, we've known each other forever, we look out for each other" he said, taking her hand and leading her across the street.
"And Shawn, I'm being serious, I just have no desire to go" she lied.
"Really?" he asked.
"Really" she said, forcing a smile.
"Well, ok" he said.  They were at the door to her Penthouse before she knew it.
"Shawn, thanks for walking me home" she said.
"Not a problem" he said.  "And thanks for helping me with the English"
"Anytime" she said, leaning up against the door.  They stood there for a minute in a very uncomfortable silence.
"So when is your dad coming home?" she said at the exact same time he asked how her other classes were going.  They laughed and Belle blushed.  *Why are things so uncomfortable, Shawn's my best friend* she said, trying to cool her pink cheeks.
"Wow, it's late, I better get back for dinner before my mom gets mad" Shawn said, not wanting to leave but forcing himself to say something.
"Yeah, me too" Belle said, quietly.
"Well, have a good night" Shawn said, walking up close to her.  Belle watched him, unsure of what he was doing.  He stood there, awkwardly, before opening his arms and pulling her into a hug.  She followed him blindly, unsure of what to think as she rested her head on his shoulder.  He pulled away, finally embarrassed at himself for what he had done.
"Well, thanks again" he said, stiffly, before turning to leave.
"No problem" Belle said.  He reached the elevator and hit the button before turning to face her again.  He gave her an embarrassed smile and pushed his hair off his face.  She smiled back and the elevator came.
"Bye" he said, slipping in and flashing her another grin as the doors closed.  Belle turned to open the door and slipped in.  Her mom was facing the other direction so she slipped up the stairs before she could be asked any questions.  Once in her room she threw herself on her bed.
"Shawn Brady, you never cease to amaze me" she said.  Her attention turned to her closet and she got up.  She pushed through a few shirts before a new one caught her eye.  "Perfect" she said to herself, holding it up in front of herself at the mirror.  "I'll catch your attention one way or another"
