Shawn and Belle Fan Fiction.  Section one: Letting Down the Walls.
Chapter twelve

Eric pulled the car into the driveway and they all climbed out and went around the back of the house to the beach.  Their parents and Mrs. Horton were all sitting on the beach on blankets.
"There you guys are!  I was getting worried" Hope said.
"Did you have fun?" Marlena asked.
"It was a blast," Eric said, and Greta nodded her head in agreement.
"Did you have fun, Belle?" Marlena asked.
"Yep, it was fun, mnus Shawn's driving" she joked, sitting down next to her mom.
"What's wrong with my driving?" Shawn asked.
"Your skills are just lacking a little" she said.
"Oh, like your complete lack of skills?" he retorted.
"Don't be jealous of me, Shawn" she said, flippantly.  "You know I'm better than you in almost everything".  Shawn jumped to his feet.
"You better hope you're better than me at running!" he yelled.  Belle screamed and jumped to her feet just as Shawn came at her.  She ran and Shawn chased her down the beach.  He cornered her near the water and she started wading in, pleading for him to stop.  She stopped at the point where the waves broke at her knees.
"Shawn, please!" she said, laughing, as she held out her arms.
"Get ready!" he said.  Belle looked over his shoulder.
"What?" she yelled.  Shawn turned to look and Belle used the opportunity to run up and shove him.  He went backwards into the water and she ran back up to their towel as everyone laughed.  Shawn came back up, soaking wet, and Belle hid behind Eric.
"Shawn, don't come any closer, I don't trust you" she said, holding onto Eric.
"I won't do anything," he said.
"Promise?" she asked, peeking her head out around him.
"I promise," he said, holding out his hand.  "Shake on it"  Belle reluctantly stuck out her hand and Shawn grabbed it.  He pulled her into a bear hug and Belle screamed.  When he finally let go, the entire front of her was soaking wet.
"Shawn, that wasn't very nice" Mrs. Horton said.
"What, you want a hug too, Gran?" he asked, walking over to her.  She held out her hands in protest and he stopped.
"Shawn, what am I going to do with you?" she said, shaking her head.
"I don't know" he said, laughing.
"Well, at least you can help me decide what to make for dinner" she said.
"But you made dinner the last few times" Shawn said.
"I know but I like doing it so it's not a problem" Mrs. Horton said.
"Let me make dinner, so you can relax" Shawn said.
"Oh, no, I couldn't do that" she answered.
"No, really, let me" he said.  "It'll be fun"
"But there's so many people to cook for" Mrs. Horton said.  "Let me at least help".  Belle was eavesdropping so she spoke up.
"I'll help him," Belle said.
"It's ok, dear, I can do it" Mrs. Horton said.
"No, really, let me do it" she said.  "Shawn and I work well together and you can take the night off".
"Well, if you two insist" she said, smiling.  "But what are you going to make?"  Shawn thought for a minute and then whispered something in her ear.  "That sounds good-but you'll have to go to the store for a few things.  Eric, do you mind if Shawn and Belle take your car to the store?"
"Sure" Eric said.  "As long as my sister isn't driving".  Belle playfully punched him.  "Just kidding-my keys are on my dresser in my room".  Shawn, Belle, and Mrs. Horton started up to the house.  Belle went to get changed while Shawn and Mrs. H worked out a shopping list and got some money.  Shawn stuck his head in her room.
"Bring a cd, Eric's car has a player," he said, leaving again.  Belle quickly changed into shorts and a tanktop and grabbed a cd and ran out to meet Shawn.
"Be careful!" Mrs. Horton yelled out the door as they climbed into the car.  Shawn started it up as Belle slid the cd in.  A Britney Spears song came on as he was backing out.
"Oh, no, not Britney" he said, reaching for the stop button.
"It's just one song on a mix cd" she said, reaching out and stopping his hand in mid-air.  Shawn held onto her hand until he had to pull away to switch gears.
"Is this a Philio Kiriakis special cd?" he joked.
"Yes" she said.  "Why is it that sometimes you act like you like him and then sometimes it seems like you can't stand him?"
"I don't know" he said, turning.  "I just don't like the way he treats people sometimes, like Chloe for instance.  But don't get me wrong, I do like the guy-he is family, you know"
"Yeah, I know" Belle said, turning to stare out her window.  Shawn looked over at her and found himself staring.  Her long blonde hair was blowing back from the winod of the open window and the sun rested on her cheekbones.  She was starting to get tan which, in Shawn's eyes, just enhanced her beauty.  He didn't realize he was staring  until she spoke up.
"Shawn!" she yelled, pointing out the window.  Shawn looked up in time to realize that he was about to go through a red light.  He slammed on the breaks and threw out his right arm to hold Belle back in her seat.  The car slammed to a stop and Shawn took in a deep breath.
"Are you ok?" he asked, looking over at her.  She glared at him.
"Nice job, Ace" she said, shaking her head.  "Just get us killed".
"I'm sorry, I don't know where my head was," he said, as the light turned green.  Belle just crossed her arms and looked away.  Shawn drove silently, and carefully, the rest of the way.  He parked the car in the parking lot and shut the engine off.  Belle reached to unlock her door but Shawn reached over her and locked it.
"Umm, excuse me, let me out, please?" she said, not looking at him.  He ttok her arm and turned her to look at him.
"I'm sorry, ok?" he said.  "Don't be mad".  Belle turned her face away from him.  He let go of her arm.  "No really, I'm very very sorry.  You knwo I would never do anything to put you in danger-*you know that*" he said.  He took her face in his hands and turned it to look at her.  He was surprised to see a grin on her face.  "What?" he said, confused.
"What, you really thought I was mad?" she said, unbuckling her seat belt.  "Wow, I never knew I was such a good actress".  With that, she hopped out of the car and slammed the door.  Shawn sat there, staring at the door, before he got out and joined her.
"You're crazy," he said, after he had jogged up to meet her.
"Must be why we get along so well" she said, grinning at him.  They went in the door and Shawn grabbed a basket.  He then went over and picked up a head of lettuce.
"You never did tell me what we're making" Belle said, as they made their way down an aisle.
"Chicken fajitas" he said, as they kept walking.
"But I thought those were kinda complicated" she said, hurrying after him.
"You shouldn't have such low expectations of my cooking skills," he said, stopping to look at something.
"I didn't know Tuff Boy had it in him" she said, standing next to him.
"Prepare to be amazed then," he said, grinning at her as he walked away.  Belle ran after him as they went to the dairy section.  He grabbed a few packets of flour tortillas and two bags of grated cheese.  He then picked up a gallon of milk.
"Here you go," he said, handing it to her as he walked off again.  Belle lugged it along and tried to keep up with him.  They went up to the check-out aisle.  While they waited, she picked up a copy of Cosmo and started to flip through it.
"Why do you girls buy this junk?" Shawn said, pulling it from her and looking at the cover.
"Cause we need help figuring out confusing things, like you boys" she said, taking it back.
"I'm not confusing" he protested.  Belle just shook her head and took some money from her purse.  Shawn reached around her and grabbed a bag of M&M's and added it to their basket as they moved up in line.
"Aww, Shawn, are you buying candy cause I'm so sweet?" she asked.
"If that's the case, we need some of those sour gummy things" he said, pretending to look.  Belle hit him on the arm.  "I'm just kidding.  Of course I think you're sweet" he said, not looking at her.
"Don't lie to me" she said, turning from her.  He grabbed the magazine from her again.
"Is there a section in here about learning to take compliments?  Cause I think you should read it" he said.  Belle reached for the magazine again and Shawn held it above her head.
"Shawn, don't start with me!" she said, reaching for it.  She ripped it from his hands as they heard laughter from behind them.  They turned to see a middle-aged woman behind them.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to eavesdrop" she said.  "But I love watching young couples"
"But we're not a couple" they said, in unison.  The woman stared at them.
"Could have fooled me" she muttered, embarrassed, as the checkout girl began to ring up their things.  Shawn paid and waited as Belle made her purchase.  They went out the door and started out into the sunshine.  Belle walked ahead of him, not paying attention as she put her money back in her purse.
"Belle, wait up" Shawn said, switching hands on the heavy bags.  He saw her starting to walk out into the parking lot, not looking up.  Then he saw the blue truck headed right for her.  "Belle!" he yelled, dropping the bags to the ground.
