Shawn and Belle Fan Fiction  Section one: Letting down the walls.
Chapter eight

    Belle awoke early the next morning and smiled when she remembered what she had done last night.  "It's his move now" she thought to herself as she rolled out of bed.  She checked her hair quickly and went out to the kitchen.  It was empty with a note from her mom saying they had gone for a walk.  She poured herself a glass of juice and sat down at the bar with a muffin.  A few minutes later, Greta came up the stairs.  "Good morning, Belle" she said.  "Morning Greta" she answered.  "Did you sleep well?"  "Yeah, I didn't realize how tired I was until I laid down" she said, biting into an apple.  "Is Shawn still asleep?" she asked a minute later.  "Yeah, I could hear him snoring through the bathroom" Belle said.  "Eric too".  Greta laughed.  "How about you and I go to the beach by ourselves?" she said.  "It might be awhile before the boys get up so we can go down and talk and wait for them there".  "Ok" Belle said, finishing her muffin.  "Let me get ready and I'll meet you here in a few minutes".
     She went to her room and pulled on her pink tankini so she wouldn't burn as badly again.  Just in case, she put on SPF 15 all over her.  She pulled her hair up into a ponytail and put on a little waterproof make-up.  She slid into a pair of cutoffs and went to join Greta.  The two of them walked down the shore and and sat down.  They chatted for a few minutes until Eric walked up to them.
    "Hey, if it isn't my two favorite girls in the world" he said, sitting between them and putting an arm around them both.  "We thought we'd wait for you two down here, I hope you don't mind" Greta said.  "Not at all" Eric said.  "I love seeing you two getting along".  "Well, of course" Belle said, reaching over and taking Greta's hand for a minute.  "We girls have to stick together on this trip".  "It's too hot out here" Eric said, pulling off his shirt.  "Who's up for a swim?".  "I'll go with you" Greta said, standing up.  "You coming Belle?"  Belle looked at them.  "No, that's ok, go ahead without me," she said, wanting to give them time alone. "Are you sure?" Greta asked.  "Yep, have fun" Belle said.
     She laid back and relaxed to the sound of the crashing waves.  She felt someone nudge her lightly on the side.  She opened her eyes to see Shawn standing over her. "Hey" she said, sitting up.  "Hey there" he said softly, sitting down next to her.  He stared at her for a minute.  "Umm, thanks for waiting for me this morning" he said.  "We weren't going to sit around and wait for your lazy butt" she said, defiantly.  "I'm just kidding," he said, placing his hand on top of hers.  Belle looked away.  "Do you want to go for a swim?" she asked.  "Nah, not yet" he said. "I was wondering if you wanted to go for a walk".  She was just about to answer him when her parents walked up.
     "Morning sweetie" her dad said, kissing her on top of her head.  "Did you sleep well, Belle?" her mom asked, spreading out a blanket next to theirs.  "Yeah, I slept great" she said.  "I could hear the ocean and it put me to sleep".  "What are your plans for today?" Marlena asked, sitting down on the blanket.  "Actually, we were going to go for a walk" Shawn said, climbing to his feet.  He held out his hand and pulled Belle to her feet next to him.  "Have fun you two" Marlena said, watching them intently.  Shawn held onto her hand for a minute and Belle stared up at him.  "Thanks, mom, bye" she said, not even turning to look at them.  They walked down to the water and tried to get Eric's attention.
     "Honey, did you see that?" Marlena asked, once they were out of hearing distance.  "See what?" he asked.  "Belle and Shawn" she answered.  "Something changed between them.  They were staring at each other".  "I don't like this Shawn character looking at my little girl in *any* way," John said.  "She's not our little girl anymore, she's almost 16" Marlena corrected him.  "And he's only looking at her the way you still look at me". John leaned over and gave Marlena a kiss and she looked up in time to see the two of them walking down the shoreline.  Hope and Bo soon joined them.
     "Hope, dear, you just missed it" she said, pointing at the couple.  "What did I miss?" she asked, excitedly.  "Shawn and Belle left together" she said.  "They were staring at each other.  Something's going to happen, I can just tell".  Hope smiled.  "Bo, what do you say to our little Sailor Man being in love?" she asked.  "It was bound to happen eventually," he said.  "No girl can resist the Brady charm".  Hope elbowed him and he bent over in mock-pain.  "I sure couldn't" Hope said, kising him and sitting down on the blanket next to John.  She looked down and could barely see the two walking down the shoreline.
     Belle and Shawn walked in relatively uncomfortable silence down the beach.  Neither of them knew what to say to the other.  "Ouch!" Belle suddenly yelled out, stopping in her tracks.  "Are you ok?" he asked, coming up next to her.  "Yeah, I must have stepped on a shell or something" she said, holding onto his arm for balance while she examined the bottom of her foot.  "Did you cut it?" Shawn asked, leaning in for a closer look.  Belle looked up and Shawn's face was right next to hers.  "Yeah, it's fine" she said quickly, starting to walk off again.  Shawn jogged to keep up with her.  A young boy ran up in front of them.
     "Hi!" he yelled.  "Hey there" Shawn said.  "Do you guys want to help up build a sand castle?" he asked, jumping up and down with excitement.  "Sure" Shawn said, after looking at Belle, who shrugged.  The boy grabbed Belle's hand and started draggin them up to their towel.  The boy's mother jumped up and hurried over.  "Jeff, I told you to find some kids to play with, not big kids" she said, shaking her head.  "We don't want to bother them".  "It's no problem" Shawn said.  "We'd love to help".  "Ok," she said.  "By the way, my name is Jennifer.  This is Jeff and that's Natalie and that's Kate," she said, pointing to two younger girls standing next to her.  "I'm Belle and this is Shawn," Belle said "We're staying further up the beach".  "C'mon, hurry!" Jeff interrupted, dragging Belle off with him again.  Shawn and Jeff went down to the water with some buckets to get water while Belle chatted with the little girls.
     They came back up and sat down in the sand.  The littlest one, who was around 3, stood next to Shawn, staring at him. Belle noticed and whispered it to Shawn, who lauughed.  "Do you want to help us, Kate?" he asked.  She nodded and then walked over to him and plopped down on his lap. Shawn looked up and Jennifer started laughing.  "Looks like someone has a crush" she said, jokingly.  Shawn laughed andd they continued working.  "Is your name really Belle?" Natalie asked.  "Yep" Belle answered.  "Like Belle from 'Beauty and the Beast'?" she asked.  "Yep, just like it" Belle said.  "Then that makes you the beast!" Jeff shouted, pointing at Shawn.  The kids squealed with laughter.  "only when he's grumpy." Belle said, laughing at Shawn.  They worked for some time and finally finished a large sand castle.
