Shawn and Belle Fan Fiction.  Section one: Letting Down the Walls.
Chapter Nine

   When they were finished building the sand castle, Shawn stood up and placed Kate in the middle.  "I nominate Kate as princess of this castle," he said.  "Now you be the beast and try to get at her," Jeff said, jumping up and running.  Shawn began to growl and the kids screamed and ran around the castle.  "Hurry, Belle, you have to change him back to the prince!" Natalie said.  "How do I do that?" she asked, standing up and brushing off some sand.  "Duh" Jeff said.  "Haven't you ever seen the movie?  You have to kiss him".  "I don't know if that will work" Belle said, nervously.  "Yes it will, hurry!" Natalie yelled.  Belle walked over to Shawn and kissed him on his cheek but close enough that the kids thought she really kissed him.
     "Gross!" Jeff yelled.  Jennifer laughed.  "You saved me" Kate said, trying to climb out of the castle but tripping on the way.  She landed on her hands and knees and began to cry.  Shawn picked her up and wiped her tears away.  "I think someone's tired" Jennifer said.  "Who's ready for a nap?" All the kids began to groan.  "You know, I better get Shawn back" Belle said.  "He needs his nap too".  "Shawn takes naps too?" Kate asked.  "Yep" Belle said.  "Or he'll get grumpy and act like the beast".  Shawn handed Kate over to Jennifer.  "Thanks for everything" Jennifer said.  "Our pleasure" Belle said.  "BYE!" the kids shouted, as they walked up to their house.  Shawn and Belle started on their way back to their house-they had been gone awhile.  Shawn groaned.
    "I have sand in some very uncomfortable places" he said.  "Ever hear of too much information?" she joked.  "You were great with those kids back there, I was impressed".  "Thanks" he said.  "I need the practice for my new little brother or sister".  "You'll make a great big brother" Belle said, looking up at him.  "Thanks, Belle" he said.  "That means a lot to me".  They were almost back when they ran into Eric and Greta, walking in their direction.
     "There you two are!  We were just coming to find you" Eric said.  "Why, what's up?" Shawn asked.  "John and Marlena came down and said that we were going to have an early dinner and go out on the town," Greta said.  "So they said to find you guys and bring you up".  "Oh, what time is it?" Belle asked.  "Almost 4" Eric said.  "You've been gone awhile," he hinted.  "We were walking and ran into a group of kids" Shawn said.  "We helped them build a sand castle-I didn't even realize that much time had passed".  "Hey, we're gonna take a quick walk and then we'll be in" Eric said, taking Greta's hand.  "Ok, catch ya later" Shawn said.  They hurried back to the house and folded up their stuff.  Everyone else was on the back porch, eating hamburgers.
     "Smells great up here" Shawn said, grabbing a plate.  "We're going to check out a place we heard about after dinner" Hope said.  "So eat and get cleaned up so we can go".  Belle ate one small burger and then started in to get cleaned up.  Shawn stayed behind to eat another as Eric and Greta joined him to eat.  Belle showered and went to her room to pick something to wear.  She was debating when she heard Shawn go into the bathroom.
     "Shaaaawn!" she whined, in a voice that made him wince.  "What?" he shouted through the door.  "Come here, I need help" she answered him.  He let himself in and stopped short when he saw she was just wearing a towel, with her hair up in another one.  "Can you be dressed before you call me in, please?" he said, turning back to the door.  "That's the problem, I don't know what to wear," she said, sitting on her bed.  "Pick something".  "I don't know, you pick" Shawn said.  "No, I can't please?" she asked, looking up at him with her big blue eyes.  "Alright" he said, walking over to the closet.  "How about this?" he asked, holding up a pink, backless sundress.  "Ok, that's great, thanks Shawn, you're the best!" she said, taking it from him.  "Yeah, yeah" he said, walking back to the bathroom.  He shut the door and was about to pull off his wet swim trunks when he heard her yell again.
     "What now?" he yelled through the door.  "You didn't pick any shoes for it..." she started, laughing.  Shawn opened the door a crack and threw his wet swim trunks at her.  She screamed and he shut the door again.  He showered and then pulled on a pair of cargo shorts with a gray and navy-blue shirt.  He went through the bathroom and checked his hair quickly in the mirror before he knocked on her door.  "Come in" he heard her say.  He let himself in and she turned while she was tying her dress around her neck.  "Wow, you look great" he said, walking up to her. She was wearing the dress with brown platform sandals.  She had her hair pulled up in a twist with little pieces falling around her face and a little make-up on over her tan.
     "Thanks" she said, going to her vanity.  Shawn walked over to the stereo she had in her room and picked up a cd.  He put it in and pushed play.  'N Sync's "God Must Have Spent a Little More Time" came on.  "May I have this dance?" he asked.  Belle turned to see if he was joking but his face was serious. "Sure" she said, holding out her hand.  He took it and pulled her close.  They weren't really dancing seriously, just kind of goofing off as Shawn mocked real dance moves.  Belle laughed at him and tried to keep from tripping over his feet.  He suddenly dipped her and she leaned back with him.  Shawn leaned in close and they were inches apart.  Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.  Shawn almost dropped her in surprise but pulled her back up as Bo peeked in the door.
     "You two ready to go?" he asked, then noticing how flustered they looked.  Shawn was pacing a little while Belle was pulling the hemline of her dress down.  They exchanged a look.  "Yep, we're ready" Shawn said, pushing past his dad out of the room.  Bo followed him and Belle came out a minute later.  "You guys look nice" Hope said, pulling her son close to her.  "Thanks mom, we're ready to go" he said, putting his arm around her.  "Ok, let's go" Eric said, pulling Greta to her feet off the couch.  They started outside and went to climb in the van.  Bo went in the back and lifted up the very last seat so they would all fit in together.  Shawn helped his mom get into the backseat and Marlena went to sit next to her.
     "Do you mind if I sit next to my baby?" she asked, stopping Marlena.  "That's fine, I'll sit with mine then" she said, stepping back to the next seat and pulling Eric next to her.  Greta slid in next to Eric and helped Mrs. Horton get in the very back.  Belle floowed to the last seat and Shawn started to follow her.  Hope reached out and stopped him.  "I meant you" she said.  "Oh!  I didn't realize I was still the baby in this family" he joked, sitting next to her.  "You'll always be my baby, Shawn D" she said, reaching up and running her hand through his hair.  "That's a pretty big baby you go there" Bo said.  "Eats a lot too".  "Like you should talk, Dad" Shawn said.  "I'm so lucky to have you two again" Hope said.  "And none of it would have happened without the help of John and Marlena.  I'm such a lucky woman".  "We were happy to help" Marlena said.  "Yeah, we weren't willing to give up" John said, as he drove.  "None of us were" Shawn said.  "I know" Hope said.  "I'm so proud of you Shawn, you've grown up so much".  "I haven't changed that much" Shawn said.  "And I haven't done anything important or anything".
    "Yes, you have" Hope said.  "You're grown-up now and you're acting mature.  You've stayed strong and out of trouble through all the mess you've had to live through.  And you're a very smart and talented young man".  "I don't know about smart" he mumbled.  "You never did tell me, how did you do in school this term?" she asked.  "Well, I don't know, we'll see" he said.  "I mean, it was tough so...".  "You don't think you did well?" she asked.  "I don't know" he said.  "We'll worry about that when my grades come, ok?"  Shawn looked at his mom, his eyes pleading for her to stop.  Hope then understood-he didn't want to be embarrassed in front of everyone.  "Ok, that's fine" she said.  "I'm sure you did well anyway".  "Here we are" John said, parking the van in a large parking lot.
