The original Church of St. Paul was located opposite the existing structure. It was brought out from England as a prefabricated iron structure and erected in Gisborne. It was sold to the Lincoln Mills and converted to a factory, with the roof and facade extensively modified. It was later bought back by the church and now serves as the parish hall on the corner opposite its replacement, which was built in 1951.
