The president of Comfort Fit Orthotics, loves base ball, fan of the Yankees. I designed this box for him, a little fancier than usual, I must admit, but I had the inspiration and had to go with it, this was for the Christmas of 2000/2001. I had a neat idea, why not make a box that looks like a baseball stadium? The diamond was the easy part (fabric paint on solder), what sells it is the crowd.
The crowds were made by cutting strips of Wasser glass, and fusing it with frit. I cut glass a little larger then a 1/2" wide (to account for shrinkage). I took random colors, and pounded them down to make the frit. Though I really should have pulverized it more though. The sand sized pieces worked the best. After the strips were fused each piece of glass was soldered in place. Unfortunately, the angles were a bit messed up, and I had to use a foil filler. But it did come out nice, and with the black patina, you can barely tell anything is wrong.
The lid is top heavy, and an extra foot was required to maintain balance, (like the Escher box)
