The Book of Thoth Tarot Deck
Designed by Aleister Crowley
Painted by Lady Frieda Harris

This is the beautifull and powerfull deck that this site is all about.
It comes in 2 different sizes:
The larger version is slightly oversized compared to most other tarot-deck's but it's really nice to work with. However it requires a lot of space to do a layout with more than a few cards and this has to been taken into consideration before buying this set. This set is especially well suited for meditation and ritual use.
The smaller version has about the same size as most other tarot-deck's and is a little more handy in use.
It seems like amazon currently only has the larger deck :-(

Order and information:

*2 Contains one Magus, The Unicursal Hexagram, a card with the statement of the Ordo Templi Orientis and a booklet. Pale green borders.

If you have details on one or more of the decks that is not supplied here, I would like to know in order to bring the information here.

The Book of Thoth
by Aleister Crowley a.k.a. The Master Therion

Written by the creator of the deck, this book is a must for those interested in The Book of Thoth tarot.
This book can be a little difficult to read and can very well be suplemented with other books on the subject.

Promethea
by Alan Moore

Lots of Thoth deck imagery & very interesting & wonderful!
Corrina (tansyfaerie@hotmail.com)

Any/Everyone here could learn a lot from it- the author Alan Moore is an occultist of the Thelemite tradition, so we gotta support him! If that ain't enough, the art is absolute milky-brilliance. J. H. Williams III is probably the best artist going these days.

Keywords for the Crowley Tarot
by Hajo Banzhaf, Brigitte Theler

This is a great book !!!!
This book gets 10 stars out of 5 !

There is a small section on reverse meanings.
He gives 17 spreads and rates them in order of difficulty.

There is a card for the day/year.
There is a section on what the card encourgaes and discourages.

I suggest everyone buys this book it is that good !

After that get The Crowley Tarot Handbook then TAROT - Mirror of the soul

I would consider these 3 the trilogy on the Thoth deck.

Sorry if this is sounding like rant. I got two of 'em. I have Ziegler's book which quite good too.

The Crowley Tarot Handbook
The Handbook to the Cards
by Akron and Hajo Banzhaf

This book has already been reviewed, but I felt more needed to be said. I've been a student of the Tarot for 15 years, turning to Crowley about 5 years ago. Of all the books on the cards, and specifically the Harris/Crowley cards, this is the best book I have ever read. I try to combine the knowledge I have gathered from all my books along with personal experiences of the cards... this book contains so much information it is going to take me years to include it in my internal database!

The Tarot Handbook
Practical Applications of Ancient Visual Symbols
by Angeles Arrien

The best current book on the Thoth Tarot was found with a posting on this site. The book was found in England at the "Book Warehouse" and shipped to me by an English gentlemen and tarot reader. I can recommend it highly. It is a must have.

This book provides interpretations and spreads for the Crowley's Thoth deck. It is an inspirational tool for self analysis and meditation.

Tarot of Ceremonial Magick
A Pictorial Synthesis of Three Great Pillars of Magick (Astrology, Enochian Magick, Goetia)
by Lon Milo DuQuette

Based upon the qabalistic and magical fundamentals of the Book of Thoth and Crowley’s Thoth deck, high ranking O.T.O. initiate Lon Milo DuQuette explains in his ground-breaking book the symbology of the cards in his Tarot of Ceremonial Magick, a deck published by U.S. Games and now a book-deck package also form U.S. Games The concept is a breakthrough for occultists of all paths. Each card is illustrated with a list of the Zodiacal, Enochian, Qabalistic, Goetic, Tattvic and Elemental components. DuQuette explains how the cards relate to each other and makes immediately accessible the more difficult conceptual connections that Crowley made so easily. Through DuQuette’s wit and decades of practical knowledge of magical practice, students of the arcane arts can gain a whole new level of understanding of how and why magic works.

The Mystical Quabalah
by Dion Fortune

The Mystical Quabalah is Dion Fortunes most famous book. It presents a thorough explanation of the Tree of Life and provides a key to the practical working of the mystical system.
The Quabalah, whose disciplines include the occult sciences of astrology and tarot, forms the basis of the Western Mystery Tradition. It is a system of mystical knowledge and spiritual devel-opment in the same way that Yoga is the mystical system of the East. The Tree of Life- a diagram consisting of ten cirlcles con-nected by twenty-two 'paths'- is the heart of Quabalistic teaching. It is a cosmic diagram; the blueprint of the universe and the human being, containing within itself a description of all possible relationships and all phenomena.

The Tarot Book
Basic Instruction for Reading Cards
by Jana Riley

Contains a good balance of "How" and "Why" the Tarot works. Written in simple easy to understand terms. I like her explanation of Archetypes and Synchronicity, and how the whole system works to provide a divination. Her approach is unique and refreshing. She ties everything in to modern psychology. You can tell she has studied things alot. Uses Thoth Deck for a basis. Includes some spreads. A good general overview of the whole Tarot system, in easily understood language. A very good introductory book. Check it out.

New Age Tarot
Guide to the Crowley Thoth Deck
by James Wanless

Although it is quasi New Age (Aeonic???) it concentrates on the symbolism of the cards not from the esoteric or thelemic view but from a more jungian/archtype perspective.
It was originally published in the 80s, (I had an originally first printing I got from Herman at the Magickal Childe when I was in NY, but foolishly let it disappear into chaos). However, it has been reissued in two versions.

TAROT - Mirror of your Relationships.
by Gerd Ziegler.

Since most people ask about love, this book has been very useful. I use many of the meanings, especially for the minor arcana. The court cards are treated as conditions as well as people, which has been somewhat useful.

The Golden Dawn Journal Book 1 of Divination
edited by Chic Cicero and Sandra Tabatha Cicero

This book is not specific to the Thoth deck, even though it is mentioned in various chapters. What I found relevant is that it is specific to the Golden Dawn which is of course linked to Crowley's deck. And the book tends to quote Crowley quite a bit concerning Tarot Cards.
It has a nice layout by Donald Michael Kraig based upon the Rose and Cross symbol of the Golden Dawn. I like to use it when I have the space and time to deal with it, it requires up to 44 cards to complete it.
There are about six chapters by different authors on Tarot, including the traditional Golden Dawn and the Abbey Theatre approaches.
The book also has sections on Geomancy, Gypsy Runes, Greco-Egyptian Magical Papyri and Ceremonial Archangelic Divination.  There's also an interesting section on what to do for Oracle Addiction.
