Apply for the
Polyester Paisley Award

I'm sure you've seen millions of sites that either offer awards, or sites that display the awards they have won. I've admired a few very special sites, and sent off an email or signed a guestbook saying, "Wow! I'm flabbergasted - great site!" but words just don't seem to be enough, to do the site justice.

I decided to create a little award for personal sites that I've come across (or had brought to my attention) that are exceptional not only in design, but in content and ambience. Sites that take a long time in loading because they are graphics-heavy, auto-load music, scroll forever, or use massive Java or Javascript code... this might be fine for those who expect high bandwidth all the time, but what the average websurfer enjoys is organization, attractiveness or uniqueness, and comfort. For example: a cluttered page with scattered, unorganized or broken images that showcases typed-out lyrics of their favourite band on one single page might be just grand to some surfers, but not to me. I'd rather see that huge page broken down into different areas, alphabetical or by song... much friendlier, and much more likely to receive return visitors. I don't appreciate insults on webpages either (like links that say, "click here, stupid"), auto-load midi files, cookies that won't let you in until you accept one of them - and it's probable that you don't either. Isn't it wonderful when you come across an interesting, expertly designed site that makes you want to return again and again?

So, when you come across a page or site that demands a little extra attention, please bring it to mine... and I'll see that this little award finds a home where it's deserved.

Think you know of an exceptional site that's well-designed, with original content, and should be awarded the Polyester Paisley? Let me know about it! All submitted pages must conform to the GeoCities Content Guidelines.
