Pieces of Love

I.

she called me angel
and smiled
green eyes lit
 little lanterns
hung from an olive canvas
dark curls framing
a fragile smile

II.

we drove saturdays
with stuffed monkeys
in the backseat...
sleepy eyes
making taffy of
cotton candy clouds

sundrenched afternoon
feed the neighborhood cats
love,
even for the strays
she called us angels

and smiled

III.

photograph,
garden of cactii
on her back porch
streaming summer days
into summer nights
under summer skies
and inhaling the
 fresh cut grass.

IV.

grace-
  she's wrapping me
up in dreams
for the ride home
with stuffed monkeys
and a stain on
 my cheek

impatient for another
saturday,
inside her arms
angel.
