Cuenta la leyenda
que Dios, tras crear el Universo, descansó sobre Galicia. De
las huellas de sus dedos nacieron las cinco rías, brazos de
mar que penetran tierra adentro. Un fenómeno tan singular
que la palabra es casi intraducible a otras lenguas. Si la
leyenda no es cierta debería serlo, porque, además de las
huellas de Sus dedos, dejó en las rías un clima suave y un
ecosistema privilegiado.

has it that God, having create the Universe, rested his hand
on Galicia. From the marks of his fingers, the five rias were
born, arms of the sea reaching far inland. So singular is
this phenomenon, than the word ria, borrowed from Spain into
German and English, is almost impossible to translate into
other languages. If the legend is not true, then it ought to
be, as, apart from the marks of His fingers, in the rias God
left a mild climate and a privileged ecosystem.]
