Dialogue - March 25, 1999

"You know," the child said, "how,
   When you're tired... really tired...
How you can't ever get warm?"
The child paused, thinking that,
In this place, she might be hushed,
But the woman nodded silently,
   And so the child continued...
"I think she was really tired...
She said she was just so cold."

The child paused, then spoke again.
"You know how... when your finger,
Or maybe your knee, gets hurt...
You know how you just lay there
And just want the hurt to stop?"
The woman, head bent, nodded,
   Gazing at the upturned face.
"I think it was like that, you know...
She just wanted the hurt to stop."

After a longer pause... "You know how
   When you're tired... really tired...
And you finally get in bed, and it feels
Like there never was such a soft bed?"
The woman smiled slightly,
   Remembering some of those times,
And the child said, "She smiled so...
   When it happened, you know...
I think to her it felt just like that."

The child stopped, and looked silently
   Toward the simple wooden box,
And asked, "Do you know... what it is like?"
And the old woman gazed at the child,
   Daughter of the daughter lost,
Then softly said, "You know how, when
You wake up early, the sun is all golden,
And it feels like the first day ever?"
She paused. "I think it's just like that..."

Dilemma - April 29, 1998

The valley of peace
Is a place in the heart
Where our Spirits meet
      The Spirit Divine...

Grows there the Tree of Life...
Flows there the River of Death...

We all come to both...
   Which one do you fear?

Eternity - August 12, 1997

I travel as the wind, unfettered, on a path
That only God and I can see,
   Walking alone
   Except for unfailing hope.

I move from now into Eternity
Through paths of mystery and delight,
   Eternal light
   And sometimes darkness,
Beneath clouds fully weighted down
With storms' wild passion,
   Pass through fury
   Into fresh-washed life.

Can you, then, see the path before me?
That path, lit only by lights of heaven,
   Wild storm-born bolts...
   Soft, cold moon... molten sun?
The path you see is yours, as mine
Is mine... they run in winding ways
   Unseen, unknown
   Each to the other.

You cannot map the way for me,
Or I for you... we can but share
   Our trav'lers' tales,
   And words of hope.

Renewal - August 6, 1997

Follow the Trickster as he leads onward,
Padding 'cross hot sand to the dark canyon...
Sits laughing softly at Man's great folly.

"Here is old death and life, long bones and shadows...
Take death within your hands... breathe life into the bones.
Take from the life within, build it anew."

"Release the dying past. Laughter will follow you,
Taking you upward and calming all fears."

Sandy's Song - March 1998

But she is free... her Spirit soars...
Her feet dance swift upon the clouds,
Her hands stretch out among the stars.
She moves within the Light of Life,
That Light that sparkled in her eyes
And flowed in brilliance from her heart
When she walked on this mortal Earth...
She walks in Glory now.

And we now wait to see again
The radiant eyes... the luminous smile...
To see the grace and feel the warmth
Of lovely soul and loving heart.
We wait to feel her hands touch ours
As with a greeting heaven-born
She welcomes us to Paradise
And brings us to Eternity.

Time Eternal - July 21, 1998

For time is human... hours and minutes,
Years and epochs... dates and histories
Impressed on races, oppressing nations,
Holding enslaved both mind and spirit...

But Time is sacred... Time Eternal,
Time that flows with the heartbeat of children,
Counted in eons, measured by moonglow,
Marked by the wheeling wings of eagles.

Travelers - August 7, 1997

The paths that I have taken are not yours,
Our steps have pressed on different ground,
   Both sacred and profane.
Then too, the road has risen and fallen
In differing ways beneath our feet,
   Imparting differing vistas.

We meet on this high ground
And walk the path together,
   For a time.
Still two, still moving differently,
Yet now (and for a time)
   In company.

We walk together now and learn new ways,
   Share travelers' tales
Together... 'til our paths again shall part,
   Or end........

Trails of the Heart - July 16, 1997

Heart's ease, soul's salve, words of healing...
I write out my spirit's journey
For you to see (those who can).
Follow me, true heart ...
   Faint tracks into eternity...
      I'll wait for you there.
