THERE'S NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS....

As you can see from the following pages, plays are my passion. My favorites are BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (which I saw 12 times with James Barbour as the Beast),THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL(starring Doug Sills and William Paul Michals, which I saw 11 times), JANE EYRE (starring James Barbour) and PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (which I've seen 26 times, mostly starring Davis Gaines , Grant Norman, and Ron Bohmer). I also love the Kopit/Yeston production of PHANTOM with Sean Smith in the leading role.

Other favs include JEKYLL AND HYDE: I saw Robert Cuccioli, whose performance completely blew me away. His transformation remains the most incredible thing I've ever seen on stage. I've also seen Chuck Wagner, who was a pleasure to meet, and, most recently T. Eric Hart at the Fullerton Civic Light Opera. Eric has a wonderful voice and made a wickedly delightful Hyde.

Regarding Eric, I had the pleasure of receiving a letter from him thanking me for mentioning him on my web page and including his web site. He is the first actor to ever send me a thank you letter and I can't tell you how much it touched me. I want to thank John Richard Petersen for forwarding my page to Eric. John was in the ensemble of Scarlet Pimpernel.

I recently saw Eric at the FCLO in their production of SOUND OF MUSIC. Once again, he did a fabulous job. I think that man can do anything. You can read more about Eric here . The night we saw Sound of Music, we saw Ralph Mohutsky in the audience. We saw Ralph in CAMELOT in the role of Sir Dinadan. He was wonderful in the part and it was a real treat to have a chance to talk to him and his wife, the wonderful Victoria Strong. We were fortunate enough to see Victoria in the role of Christine in the Kopit/Yeston version of PHANTOM.

Two fine actors

More favs: GODSPELL (James Barbour again). I also saw CAMELOT (James, again), and a workshop production of something called SONGS FROM THE TALL GRASS (also starring James Barbour...yes, I'm a big James Barbour fan). The last show I saw him in was BACK FROM BROADWAY. James sang a wonderful song called "Molasses and Rum". I hadn't heard him sing "live" for a while and I forgot what a BIG voice he has. Blew the roof off the building. And with no mike, yet.
I also loved another version of Jekyll and Hyde called DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE which starred Dale Kristien and Robert Yacko. We saw DRACULA, THE MUSICAL starring Tom Hewitt when it was in La Jolla. It was quite good. Tom was interviewed in an article in the L.A. Times in August 2004. The show, revamped, will be opening in New York soon.

Other plays I've seen include MISS SAIGON, LES MISERABLES, and CHESS (with Sean Smith and Doug Sills) CAMELOT (with Dale Kristien of Phantom fame), CANDIDE (with Sean Smith), CHICAGO (which I didn't like at all), and CAROUSEL.

Oh! How could I forget JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT????? I've seen several productions of this feel-good play. Sam Harris was awesome; Devin May was adorable, David Burnham was wonderful.

I am totally blown away by the amazing vocal talents of DOUG SILLS, JAMES BARBOUR, DAVIS GAINES, and SEAN SMITH. And WILLIAM PAUL MICHALS...wow!!! He played Chauvelin in THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL....what a great voice!

The Pimpernel reigns supreme

Some plays get hold of you and won't let go. PHANTOM was one. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST was another. And now I've added THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL to that list. I loved the humor. I loved the music. I loved Doug Sills and William Paul Michals. I loved the Bounders...
"Off netting butterflies" and "Really, Percy, there are limits" are two of my favorite lines.
I loved Doug's humor and never knowing what he'd say next, Amy's impassioned rendering of "When I look at you", and William's sensuality, which was evident in every song and every move, nut never more so than in the impassioned "Where's the Girl".

Doug,William and Amy"Doug, William, and Amy"
Percy, Marguerite, and Chauvelin

The perfect trio

I loved the show more every time I saw it.
I loved Doug's humor,Amy's feistiness,
William's passion. I loved the music,
the laughs, oh, heck, I loved everything!

William and Amy"Where's the Girl?"

Amy and William

My favorite song from
THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL

I fell in love with William's voice.
Every time I heard him sing,
"I'll warm you, I'll rouse you"
I melted. If I was Marguerite, I think
I would have fallen into his arms.
I loved the way he looked at her,
the way he held her shawl to his face,
as if inhaling her scent.

Wonderful William

Doug"Douglas H. Sills"
Totally Awesome

I can't imagine anyone else in the
role of Sir Percy.
It was always fun
to go to the stage door.
Doug was always so nice, and so funny,
and willing to pose for pictures, even in his bathrobe!

David Cromwell"David Cromwell"
Robespierre/the Prince of Wales

"Bring me back one of those silly hats, what?"

David was so wonderful in both roles
Such great timing. His Prince
was one of my favorite characters
So glad I got to meet him!
