I've "written" all my life; I remember when I was a little kid, we had one of those big, black manual typewriters. I learned to type on it, "hunt and peck". (I remember the striker for the letter "l" was missing - I had to use the letter "i" instead and then, go back and fill it in with a pencil). Spent hours on that old clunker and wrote, as I recall, a lot of sci-fi kinda stuff. I glued the pages and pages of single-spaced writing into a scrapbook with Elmer's white glue. As time went on, it got fairly ragged looking, and someone threw it out during one of our many moves. I can still see those pages, though, hard and crackling from the glue - and mourn its loss ... the part of my childhood it represented ...

Things are different now, of course; there are no "i's" to fill in - and no scrapbooks to lose. I still "lose" things, though - in different ways - like putting a password on a chapter, forgetting the password, and having to redo the whole thing. Or, the computer says, "cannot access file", and I kick myself for not "backing up" - and thank the gods I at least thought to print the darn thing before closing down last night!

These are some of the "survivors", the first chapters of books I'm currently working on.

As I write them into existence, the stories take on lives of their own, the characters growing and breathing, shimmering, just outside the realm of "here" and "now" - a pseudo-reality that pulls me in - and, I must write them into life. They are mine ... but ... I am theirs. Their tyranny rules my nights ... and, their future flirts through my days, simmering, percolating through the dreary reality of my own fiction, my life.

LOVE ON A WIRE - an internet romance book - a woman responds to a bio of a man on the personals - she, at first contact, is about 50 lbs overweight, steadily losing, but still overweight - man is charming at first and they correspond for awhile - till he finds out she's overweight - then, he tells her in no uncertain terms that he's not interested - she may be witty, successful, exactly what he wants in all other ways, but ... she must be beautiful - and beautiful women are definitely NOT overweight. So, they stop writing. She stews. He might be done - but SHE isn't...

CAPTIVE HEARTS - a fantasy - gorgeous heroine is just coming into her powers as a changeling in a far-off, danger-wrought world filled with strange beings, a handsome daredevil hero ... and of course the obligatory dark villain ... who lusts after the heroine, captures her ... does terrible, wonderful things to her … she escapes ...

BOOK #5 -© IT'S HERE! FOR LOVE OF LAUZA - my mom's memoirs - she's written the "skeleton" of the book - what happened to who, when ... I'm making it "readable" - using a little "artistic license", making it into a kind of "little house on the prairie" book. Adding all sorts of pictures. Mainly for our family, but maybe has some limited interest in the outside world ... who knows?
