| Well, Thanksgiving weekend was good. I got out of work around 3 on Wednesday, and went searching for gloves and a headband to keep me warm for the Turkey Trot. Ended up at Walmart for way too long, but I got some fleece gloves and a headband that are ok.
Thursday morning came way too early. Looked out the window, and there was a beautiful dusting of snow on the ground and in the trees. It had stopped snowing and wasn't raining, so we got ready for the Turkey Trot. I put on tights, pants, long sports bra, long sleeve shirt, and light weight fleece zip jacket. Then my baseball cap, windbreaker, headband, and gloves. Way too much, as I found out later. DH had on similar amounts of layers. Off to the races...
Got there in plenty of time. Picked up our stuff (numbers, chip, and Tshirt), stretched, warmed up, and used the portapotties. Then went to line up. Line up seemed to be well organized. There were signs for 5 minute miles, 6, 7, 8, 9, and walkers. I lined up at the back of the 8's, front of the 9's. DH was up by the 7's. There were lots of people, probably 2500 or so.
And we're off. Well, the race started, but it was a while before I got to move. Finally moving, lots of people, I'm weaving all over the place trying to get somewhere. The course is mostly flat, slightly downhill in the beginning. A few turns, lots of weaving and passing of people. At the first mile, I'm at 10:00. I'm disappointed, and try to pick up speed. More weaving and passing more people. Still mostly flat. Pass the water station, but don't stop. Pass the turn off for the walkers. At the 2 mile mark, I'm at about 18:30 or 40. Better... made up some time. Now I'm getting really hot, and a little tired. But I push on, weaving around people who slow down or stop in the middle of the road. Still mostly flat, but slight uphill. We turn back onto Main Street where the finish is. I start to sprint, but where's the finish? Finally I can see the clock. 28. I kick it up and cross the mats. I thought my time was 28:15. It was actually 28:19. OK, but slower than I was hoping. Wait to get my chip cut off and find DH. He finished and is waiting
We go to get some goodies and head home. We get water, OJ, moon pies, donut holes, and a bagel. There's no coffee. Off to home to relax and get ready for later. We both are slightly disappointed in our times, but remember that there was a delay at the start. Since the race was chip timed, we hope that our "real time" without the delay was recorded. But, no such luck. Official time was 28:19 for me. Guess there wasn't a timing mat at the start line. Too bad.
This is getting long, so I'll post this and write about the rest of Thanksgiving later.
