A Quest to Succeed

Sometimes we loose sight in our quest to succeed.
Our mind becomes cluttered with malice and greed.
We compromise values, our families, our dreams,
For a world in which nothing is quite as it seems.

Attention to detail gives way to obsession.
We act like it's some kind of valued possession.
We half listen to those who could make it alright.
Forgetting it all could be lost overnight.

Our children grow up without parents in sight.
Believing that money will makes things alright.
One day when we need them they plain just don't care.
Remembering now, we become more aware.

We then sit alone as our hair becomes grey.
We think back again to a happier day.
How much did it matter, and what did we gain?
When our own self destruction is all that remains?
