Wagner's Works on Midi

For an even better understanding of Ludwig, I suggest listening to some Wagner music that was so important to the King. Just click on the title and the Midi file should download in under a minute.

Note - You can only hear these midi files if you have a soundcard properly installed and working. File sizes are stated in kilobytes.

'Ride of the Valkyrie'. 39k. Possibly Wagner's most famous piece. Used in "Apocalypse Now".

'Bridal March' from Lohengrin. 8k. The world's most popular wedding march today.

'Prelude' from Act 1 of Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg. 214k. A magnificent piece of orchestral music; grand, sweeping and glorious! (A midi version doesn't do this justice!)

'Prelude' from Act 3 of Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg. 8k. More sublime than Act 1, this is a typical 'Wagner' piece of music, light and airy in places, foreboding in others.

'Overture' from Tannhäuser. 127k. An example of pre-Ring Wagner. Sublime and beautiful. (This is a piano version written by Franz Liszt.)

'Prelude' from Act 1 of Tristan und Isolde. Not a particularly nice midi, but as this was Ludwig's favourite Wagner opera, I have included it here.

'Siegried Idyll'. 86k. A light, instrumental piece written by Wagner as his wife's 33rd birthday present in 1870. A beautiful midi file.
