The first Hispanic dolls arrived in the "Mod Era". I remember looking in the Sears Wishbook and there was featured a Hispanic Talking Barbie.  She had dark brown hair and her features were the same as the Anglo Barbie and she spoke Spanish.   Hispanic Barbies were marketed in selected part of the United States that had a large Hispanic populations.  The first Barbie that had Mattel's version of Hispanic features did not arrive until 1983 with the release of Spanish Barbie as part of the "International" series, however the first doll Mattel label Hispanic  Barbie came in a bilingual box and her head was made from a "Steffie" head  mold.  In 1983 Mattel also released Twirly Curls "Ricitos" Barbie,  Sensational Malibu Barbie &  Sun Gold Malibu Barbie.  In 1985 a Hispanic version of Day to Night Barbie was released followed in 1986 by Dream Glow Barbie & Tropical Barbie in the Hispanic version.  In 1987 My First was issued as a department store special.  In 1989 Mattel no longer issued bilingual boxes for Hispanic Barbies for the US market. The year 1989 brought the Mexican Barbie to the "Dolls of the World " collection (originally named "International" series) and a Special Edition Unicef Barbie was released.  In 1990 three new Hispanic Barbies were put on the Market,  Summit Barbie, Flight Time Barbie and Fashion Play Barbie.   1992 saw the release of a new "Dolls of the World" issue of Spanish Barbie, she was dress in a traditional Catalan style dress.  That year also saw the release of the  Woolworth's Special Expression Barbie  and  Fantastica Barbie , which was the first Barbie to use the "Teresa" head mold instead of the traditional "Steffie" head mold, to create a more defined Hispanic look .  "Teresa" head molds were first introduced in 1986, for Barbie's Hispanic friend Teresa and according to the Jan/Feb 96 issue of  Barbie Bazaar was the only head mold used on the Hispanic dolls from 1992-1995.  In 1993 Festiva Barbie was released by a whole sale club and Woolworth Department Stores' Special Expression  had a Hispanic version.  Walmart Department Stores released a Hispanic doll version of Country Western Star  series in 1994 and Country Bride  in 1995.  Mattel also released Hispanic versions of My First Barbie 1987, 89, 90, 92, 95 and Fun to Dress 1990, 93, 94 and Fashion Play 1991. In 1997 Puerto Rican Barbie was released in the Dolls of the World Series and 1998 Chilean Barbie was the new addition to the Dolls of the World Series. A second edition Peruvian Barbie has been added to the Dolls of the World Series for 1999.
