My First Barbie
I have added this part because many of Barbie
In Paris visitors would like to know more about me. My name is
Babz (my real nickname) and I am a native North Carolinian and I now reside
in Maryland. I graduated from the University of Western Carolina with a major
in Spanish and Art. I lived on the West Coast and in Europe before moving
to Maryland. I currently work for the National Weather Service as a
Computer Specialist. I am married and have one teenage son and 3 cats
and 2 shelties. I am an animal lover and maintain a webpage for my
hometowns Humane Society visit it by clicking
here. I began collecting Barbie dolls in 1984 when I lived in Germany.
My son was a baby and I started visiting toy stores there on a regular
base. I had own Barbie as a girl but had given her up when becoming
a teen, I just did not want to seem uncool. One day on a visit to the toy
store I saw a hispanic Day to Night Barbie and a Oscar de la Renta gown .
(She is the doll pictured above and that is the gown I mentioned.)
I looked around to make sure no one was watching and purchased both.
After that I was hooked and during toy store visits the Barbie Isle
would be investigated. I now have over 400 Barbie both modern and vintage.
You can visit my vintage page by
clicking here. I enjoy
collecting all Barbies but the ethnic ones are my favorites. I also enjoy
collecting Barbie Fashions. Over the years Mattel has offer a much
large selection of ethnic Barbie than ever before. My two favorite of all
ethnic Barbie is Escada and the Cinnabar. Many new collectors have emailed
me for advice on what to buy as far as profit my only advise on this is:
Buy the dolls you really like because she is only
worth what someone else is willing to pay you in the end.
I have high-end dolls that are now worth far less than several playline dolls
I own. It all amounts to supply and demand. I am a collector and not
a profiteer so this does not bother me. Many of my dolls are removed from
the box for display anyway. Some folks email me for assistants in putting
a value on their childhood dolls or one they found a yard-sell. I am
not a authorize Barbie appraiser but I do have several price guide books
that have suggested values and will be more than happy to share them with
you. If you check the bottom of the page I have added a list of books
I recommend for collectors. Also, there are two magazines I recommend Millers
Fashion Dolls and Barbie Bazaar.
