THE BECKY COLLECTION
BLUE
©By Becky
To me she was the most beautiful of all
A wonderful horse so proud and so tall
She would take me wherever I wanted to go
Would race like the wind or trot along slow
Down winding paths of wood violets and trees
A forest so quiet and still, with only a breeze
To move the leaves making soft rustling sound
Taking me into meadows where flowers abound
All you could see no matter which way you'd look
You could never see pictures like this in a book
With glorious carpets of grass so soft and so green
Blue would lie down and let me off to daydream
Of soft fluffy clouds racing across azure blue skies
Of birds flying, listening to their joyful sweet cries
Blue off to the side munching on tender new grass
A small shimmering pond with reflections like glass
That is what made this place so nice and serene
It all made me feel like I ruled here as queen
I would tell Blue about all of the love in my heart
Nodding her head she would then try to impart
Rubbing her noble head down the side of my arm
She'd say she would protect me forever from harm
For I know she said it, because it had to be so
I always trusted her no matter where we did go
Riding the fields of Cotton, Tobacco and Corn
Watching the workers out so early in the morn
Chopping and cropping and shucking all day
We would watch for awhile then be on our way
Bareback was my favorite way to ride Blue
She was so warm and her gait was so true
Never would she falter with me on her back
I could lie on her, let the bridle go slack
Take a nap while up there with nothing to fear
For her back was so broad and she had no peer
No horse could come close to my wonderful Blue
She was my best friend her friendship so true
The best place to rest from heat, for it did shield
Was a gnarled old Pear tree in midst of the field
I'd sit on the ground lots of pears there to munch
While off to the side you could hear Blue crunch
Her way through her weight in the fruit on the ground
And with bees buzzing 'twas the only lone sound
I'd be lulled into sleep, down there on the ground
While dreams in my head kept swirling around
Then it would come time for me to go home
The workers had stopped now all of them gone
Blue she would nudge me to tell me to wake
Her kneeling, I'd mount her, she would then take
Me on home, she'd then trot back to the barn
I hope you have enjoyed my sweet little yarn
I finally woke up from my dreams 'twas so cruel
A nasty old bitch told me my Blue was a mule
