Russian Caramels

3 tbsp butter
2 tbsp golden syrup (molasses?)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tin sweetened condensed milk
Vanilla essence

Place butter, syrup, sugar and milk in a heavy based saucepan and stir over heat until boiling. Continue to cook, stiring well, for around 15 mins. Add essence and turn out onto a buttered plate. Mark into squares. When cold cut and wrap in celophane (unless like my family you can scoff the lot before they even begin to go soft ;))
