This show, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar or All My Children fame, is surprisingly really good. I say surprisingly because of the movie, which I really didn't like. But the show takes Buffy away from L.A. and (thank god) Luke Perry, and into the small town of Sunnydale, with a new high school, new people, and a whole new set of problems.
Although the make up can be laughable, the acting is actually good compared to other tv shows of the same type. Sarah Michelle Gellar who I liked during my short flirtation with All My Children, and who I think truly deserved her Daytime Emmy, really makes a good slayer. (I hear she even does some of her own stunts) Anthony Head (who you might remember from the Taster's Choice commercials, which were better than some soap operas) is good, if not a little absentminded as the Watcher, Buffy's teacher and mentor. Buffy's new friends, Willow (Alyson Hannigan) and Xander (Nicholas Brendon), also fit nicely into their roles as helpers and sometime bait for catching the minions of the evil Master.
Although the name Buffy gives me chills, the show doesn't. The action is great,
and the story lines are interesting and catching if not plausible. There's a plus because Xander and Buffy's "Vampire
with a Soul" friend, Angel (David Borenaz), are true eye-candy. So even if you don't like the vampires, or
the slaying, or the silly make-up, tune in to oggle the guys. =)
I am now addicted to this show. Watch it every chance you get. I can't believe Ms. Calendar's dead! Oh, and Seth
Green is so very cute. But then again, are we surprised? Anyway, this show's caliber has gone up yods since I first
reviewed it. The make-up has even gotten better. The acting is really a lot better now, trust me. It's like they've
finally gotten in sync with their characters. It's a nice thing.
