Put out in 1988, and starring Julia Roberts, you'd figure this movie wouldn't be the best. However, you'd be wrong. Mystic Pizza is 80's, big-haired, predictable and sappy. But it's GOOD. Although this sounds incredibly corny, it is a 'feel-good' movie.
The premise of the movie is this: Three young women live in a small seaside Conniticut town, called Mystic. They all work at Mystic Pizza, the local dining extravaganza. There's the naughty one, the smart one and the one who can't decide if she wants to get married or not. They're all out looking for love and futures and whatever. The smart one, Kat (who's name I forget) ends up babysitting for Tim (William R. Moses), and basically falls in love with him whilst his wife is away. The naughty one, Diasy (Julia Roberts) spends her time swearing and whatever else, until she meets Charlie (or, Charles Gordon Windsor III) a rich guy from uptown who first falls for her and her pool-playing abilities. The one who can't decide if she wants to get married, Jo, spends her time boinking her ex-fiancee and avoiding commitment.
After re-reading this, I have no idea why I liked the movie. I just came out of it with an 'everything's allright' type of feeling. My advice: Rent it. It's a chick flick, but who the hell cares?!
