Well, I just watched the series for the first time this morning, and I must say one thing: ENOUGH WITH THE HERCULES COPIES, OK??!! Ahem. Well, First there was Hercules, which I find a little grating. Then there was Xena,(a Hercules spinoff by the same companies), which I like almost everytime I watch it, but now I hear there's supposed to be some sort of lesbian metaphor stuff going on?? Third, there was Sinbad, the first of the three to be done in much the same way by a different company. Now, Sinbad's okay, and it can be funny too, but I began to think: "when is this ever going to end?". Now we've been attacked by yet another hercules-like series by yet another company. (sigh) Robin Hood is...well...a lot like the others. Big bad meanie is big and bad and mean to the people. In steps a 'hero out of legend' and general do-good-nice-guy who saves everyone and still looks good. Prince John is said big meany and Robin Hood is the hero out of legend with the good hair.
Let's get into the characters of this and the other action series. Hercules is the hero, Eolus is the flunky in "Hercules". In "Xena", Xena is the warrior/heroine, Gabrielle (ew ew ew) is the flunky. "Sinbad" is different only in that there are a lot more main characters and it all takes place on a ship. (i.e lots of main characters looking a little green while fighting the enemy and having good hair), yet Sinbad is the hero, the rest of the crew are the flunkies. "Robin Hood" combines a little of all three. Robin is the hero, yeah, but there is a Xena-esque Lady Marion, and Little John and Friar Tuck are the other flunkies. (little john= Eolus and Friar tuck = Gabrielle?)
So, it's the same, but if you like that sort of thing, go ahead and watch it. God knows I probably will. (sigh)
