In a momentary loss of brain power and motor skills, I agreed to see this movie on opening night. Which was a friday, which means it ain't cheap, bucko. So I paid my $8.50 (thank god it's $8.50 canadian...), rounded up Cathy, my movie pal, and a few others to go and watch the movie whose plot was more well-guarded than the president's penis size.
As an X-phile who has watched the show since it's conception, I found the movie to be a particularily snazzy season fine. Instead of two parts, it was one big one, with better special effects, and no commercials. However, Chris Carter, Father of the Files, promised all us obsessed fans out here that we'd get answers to the questions raised during the regular season. yah. Okay. So? Nope. Didn't deliver for me, that's for sure. Although the biggest question of all was answered, i.e the existence of googly-eyed E.Ts, nothing I wanted to know was answered. Nothing about relationships between the characters, biological or otherwise. I wanted to know about the whole Scully-egg thing, the Mulder-CSM thing, the Krycek-Mulder thing (YOW!), the Spender-Mulder thing...But these questions weren't answered at all. Not even touched. Spender and Krycek weren't even in the movie!
Carter was wrapped up in making the movie pleasant and understanable for those who don't watch the regular series. But if after five years they haven't watched the show, are they going to spend $$$ to watch a BIG episode? I think not. Like Cathy said, it's like NYPD Blue. I've never watched it, and if they brought out a movie, I wouldn't go. Especially if Dennis Franz' butt is going to be up on screen, the size of a buick.
And speaking of butts, just so you know, THEY CUT MULDER'S BUTT SCENE! Well, had to go there.
There were some things that I wished were in the movie. More of the Lone Gunmen, more of Cancer Man, more of Krycek (anything at all of Krycek would be fine...). But I was left hanging. As for the interpersonal relationships of the series, it left me with more questions then answers.
My Advice: If you watch the series, it's a must-see, if only so that you're not lost next season. If you don't watch the series, go see Mulan.
