A Little Romance

I know how you love to pull up the shades
And view life as statistical charts;
I know how you love to think of spades as spades,
But there's another suit,
And it's hearts.

There must be
A little romance in life,
Shadows upon the sand,
A mist that floats within a country lane.

There must be
A little romance in life,
Twilight upon the sea,
The scent of lilacs and the sound of rain.

Fields of flowers,
Fields all yellow and white---
Japanese windbells
That tinkle and gleam in the light.

There must be
A little romance in life,
Crayons and colored glass,
Pine needles in the early dew---
There must be a little romance in life
For me and for you.
