The Decline and Fall of Love
Love isn't built in a day.
Love that's demolished that way
Forms much too great a cavity.
But what comes up must go down---
It's a simple law of gravity. All those reminisces
Of vowing "for always"
And the hungry kisses
While ling'ring in hallways
Are gone with your daily calls
When love declines and falls. All those special evenings
By candlelight gleaming,
So many special evenings
Of planning and dreaming---
If only fate could forestall
A love's decline and fall.No tears
In parting---
No fears
In starting
Our lives anew;
Love isn't durable,
Nor is it incurable---
I'll carry on,
And so will you.Yet still I find I'm yearning
For how we both were then,
And soon my eyes are burning
And things start to blur then---
Oh, all that the heart recalls!
When love declines and falls.
