Kenny Loved Cars
On Christmas Day when he was four,
Kenny learned what it was like to soar---
He thought his little heart would burst
As his eyes became starry
When he was given his first
Matchbox Ferrari.Kenny loved cars,
All sorts of cars,
Dodges and Chevys and Fords---
Kenny loved cars,
All sorts of cars,
Morgans and Tuckers and Cords.Kenny watched cars,
All sorts of cars,
No matter the place we might be---
Kenny watched cars,
All sorts of cars
Much more than he
Had ever watched me.I could tell that he was gone for good
The day he looked under a Rolls Royce hood.
He would get all touchy-feely,
Not inside me---
Inside an Austin-Healey.
And I truly felt my heart go crash
When I saw how he eyed a '56 Nash.I could never measure up,
Neither sooner nor later,
To an old fan belt or a carburetor.
Thus our love was never to be---
Since Kenny loved cars,
All sorts of cars,
Much more than he
Could ever love me.
