Lucky Clothes

Do you have a lucky dress like I do,
Luckier than all the rest?
Though your wardrobe's quite extensive,
It may not be the most expensive
Or the dress you like best.
Yet good things seem to happen
When it's the one you wear.
They call it superstition,
But I don't care.

I was wearing my lucky dress when we met
On that day I'll never forget---
That crowded boulevard
With all those people and cars.

I remember well the moment you smiled,
My eyes became the eyes of a child
And I was in the midst
Of golden shimmering stars.

You asked me where I was going---
Right then I hadn't a clue---
You said, "Wherever you're going
"Is where I'm going, too."

I lost my bearing,
I lost my heart---
And I plan on wearing
That lucky dress
Till the day it falls apart.

Male Version

Do you have a lucky shirt like I do,
Luckier than all the rest?
Though your wardrobe's quite extensive,
It may not be the most expensive
Or the shirt you like best.
Yet good things seem to happen
When it's the one you wear.
They call it superstition,
But I don't care.

I was wearing my lucky shirt when we met
On that day I'll never forget---
When suddenly there were
No other people or cars.

I remember well the moment you smiled,
My eyes became the eyes of a child
And I was in the midst
Of golden shimmering stars.

I asked you where you were going---
I prayed you hadn't a clue---
I said, "Wherever you're going
"Is where I'm going, too."

I lost my bearing,
I lost my heart---
And I plan on wearing
That lucky shirt
Till the day it falls apart.
