Last month I received a note from a fellow who said his mariage was on the rocks
because he had cheated on his wife and that he was looking for a lyric which would
tell her how sorry he was and how he would never do this again.
It was a subject I had never tackled before, and since I'm determined to
deal with every facet of love, I began to play with the idea.
Unfortunately, it simply did not work, and I was ready to abandon it until I
hit upon the notion of dealing with infidelity not from his point of view,
but from his wife's.

Never Gonna Cheat Again

Once again, my love,
You come to me
On bended knee
Begging my forgiveness---
And once again, my love,
All I can suppose is
To my dismay
It's the only way
I ever get chocolate and roses.

You're never gonna cheat again,
It's something you won't do;
There'll never be deceit again,
I'm the only one for you.

You never meant to stray this time,
You simply lost your head;
If you don't mean what you say this time,
May the Good Lord strike you dead.

You swear on the family Bible,
You swear on your mother's grave---
You swear I can sue for libel
If you should ever misbehave.

The cycle is complete again,
And if I let it pass,
I know you'll never cheat again...
My ass.
