If
you're looking for simplicity and elegance, then follow this short tutorial
to create great looking cut-out text. It looks the best when using a textured
background. You will need to use:
- the text tool, - the cut-out function and - the drop shadow function. |
Step
1:
Create a new image with 16 million colours. You don't have to use a single colour. As mentioned earlier, textured backgrounds work great with this tutorial. I have used a purple wallpaper in this example. Enter some text and keep it selected throughout the entire tutorial. If you want the text the same colour as your wallpaper, uncheck the "floating" box. For coloured text, check the "floating"box. I have unchecked it in this example since it gives a better result. |

Step
2:
Now click "image - effects - cut-out" and enter the following options: - Shadow Colour: Black - Opacity: 80 - Blur: 5 - Vertical Offset: 2 - Horizontal Offset: 2 You can change the options but this is what you should get. |

Step
3:
To emphasise the cut-out effect, you can add a slight white shadow. Here's what you need to do. Click "image - effects - drop shadow" and enter these results: - Colour: White - Opacity: 50 - Blur: 1 - Vertical Offset: 1 - Horizontal Offset: 1 |

There you have it. Now you can experiment with different kinds of fonts and also different colour combinations. I still think using the same colour works the best. |
