Please (Songs of Desire)

you don't like to say please, I said,
               and gripped your hair.
you shook your head and smiled.
I couldn't see the colour of your eyes,
             just the gleam reflected from
            the downstairs light.
Say please, I said and once again
you shook your head and squeezed your thighs
over mine as poetry fell from My lips
and yours were compressed into a tight grin
determined not to let that word
              into My mind.
And yet, for all that refusal to say please
your body language gave the lie
as you strained against My grip
to try and burrow neath My skin.
               Say Please, I said
and though the word was never spoken
in love, her reply was more than token.
