In the beautifully descriptive Things Unspoken, Sheen transports us back in time to 1950's Hollywood, where Jorie Mackinnon must cope with the death of her mother, an eccentric and often absent father, and a family code of silence that not only forces them to hide important secrets, but their feelings of loss and love as well. We follow this intriguing family for twelve years, sharing moments both funny and sad, until at the end, we are filled with hope. The humor, strength and independence of Jorie and her brothers enables them to leave behind the shards of a difficult childhood. Selected as one of the L.A. Times "Best Books of the Year." Well deserved.
