My very first birdie was a really sweet pale yellow and soft blue budgie named Luna. Luna was friendly and funny at the same time. Luna used to have a big crush on my parrotlet Peanut. And Peanut really liked Luna. Their cages were right next to each other. Whenever I let all the birds out together in the beginning (my four budgies, and 4 parrotlets) Luna would try to go right to Peanut. Only problem was that Luna couldn't really pick Peanut out from the 3 parrotlets and sometimes she went to the wrong parrotlet. She found out right away when it wasn't Peanut. Then she'd find Peanut and they would swap seed. Peanut being a parrotlet couldn't ever live with Luna cause parrotlets beaks are too rough for budgies. But they would play together. Then as Peanut became quickly bonded to Jilly-- his mate-- things cooled off between him and Luna and I stopped letting them out together. But Luna had other budgies to play with named Keeley, Greensleeves and Starry and was really happy. Only Keeley is still with us.
Keeley is so used to having friends that when Luna, Greensleeves and Starry passed we got another parakeet we named Looney. At first Keeley didn't like Looney all that much but now they are friends.
Within the past year, Keeley has developed an overgrown beak which needs to be trimmed at the Vet's office every 3 to 4 weeks. Thats one thing to watch for on parakeets. If a parakeet's beak grows too long they won't be able to eat and can die. When you observe your parakeet, note how long its beak is. That way if it starts to grow too long you'll know. If you notice that its beak is too long, take your budgie to the Vet and have it trimmed.
Here is Looney from the front and back:

As much as I love my parrotlets, I will always have a soft spot for budgies. They are happy little birds and I love watching them play and listening to their little cheeps.
