Have you read a newspaper, lately? It seems bad news still sells papers. It also seems evil
continues to go unchecked and that godliness does not pay off. Where will it all end, or
will it all end? The best teacher for the present, likewise, the future is the past. Sir Winston
Churchill said, “Those who will not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.”
That is, indeed, a very wise statement. Jesus predicted earth conditions when He would
return to right the wrongs of earth and said, “But as the days of Noe [Noah] were, so shall
also the coming of the Son of man be. How was it in Noah’s day? He states further, “For
as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and
giving in marriage until the day Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood
came, and took them all away; so shall the coming of the Son of man be” (Matthew 24:
37-39).
When did this judgment come unawares upon mankind? When men began to become
many and mighty (Genesis 6: 1); When they began to compromise God’s Word and
standards and substitute them with their own behavior, such as: polygamy (6: 2) unequal
marriages between believers and unbelievers (6: 2); When men began to see themselves as
important pillars of society and only paid lip service to God (6: 4); When righteousness
became a laughing stock and was violated in the school room, the court room and in the
bed room. In other words, judgment came upon a society muchh like our own today.
Genesis 6: 6 records thes words, “And it repented the LORD that he made man on the
earth, and it grieved him at his heart.”
Here “repented” -- the Hebrew word nacham means to be ill at ease. God could
not stand what was going on and could not allow it to continue unaddressed or
unpunished. God could not and cannot abide sin. He allow it for a time to offer time and
grace to mankind to choose righteousness by trusting Him for salvation and eternal
life.
God judged the old world of sinful men with a cataclysmic flood, but, He also provided a
means of escape for all those who would trust themselves to it for safety, the ark. The fact
that only eight people were aboard tells how strong unbelief was. God will punish
unrighteousness in our world, too -- with the fire of His indignation. But He has already
provided an ark for the salvation of every soul that will trust to that ark, the Lord Jesus
Christ.
This is entirely the reason He came to the earth, in the first place; why He died and rose
again; why He ascended to heaven and why He continually beckons for you to come in
faith and give Him your sin and accept His free gift of everlasting life. Not a bad trade,
huh?
“And the Spirit and the bride say, Come ... And let him that is athirst come. And
whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely” (Revelation 22: 17).
