REMARKABLE MAN
Have you lately considered the great things man has done? Mankind is truly remarkable
when we consider his vast accomplishments. In just a little under a hundred years man has
progressed from covered wagons and animals for transportation to space exploration,
from candle light to laser engineering, from discovering ether to micro surgery on an
unborn baby.
Man has created super structures hundreds of stories tall, common means of travel which
exceed 600 miles an hour and simulated life in a laboratory. Man has done well! He is truly
amazing. He has made great strides and accomplished some tremendous things with his
technology. But in all of his accomplishments, man has created nothing. Nothing in the
universe has been authored by man’s technology without the existence of something being
present.
The Psalmist looked at the great strides of man and turned his attention in a different
direction. He wrote: “O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
Who hast set thy glory above the heavens... When I consider thy heavens,
the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
What is man that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man that thou visitest him?”
(Psalm 8).
Man is not an end in himself, nor does he truly create. His accomplishments and capacity
are small and limited when we compare them to what God has done. Human wisdom is
dwarfed right out of the picture. And all of man’s self-appointed genius is found to be
from God, a gift to help us to live and subdue our planet, so, also, all of his technology
and skill.
All the natural and physical science he studies God put into practice. We use existing
materials, rearrange them and restructure them to make other things with them and claim
creatorship, but God created them and man himself. There is nothing wrong with our
technology in making life easier on the earth, as long as we keep things in proper
perspective and realize that we are not alone, nor are the the beginning or ending of our
experience.
God created ex nihilo which means “out of nothing”. God merely spoke and the
universe and all in and around it came into being, spontaneously. The world we live in, the
earth with its perfect temperature range, its perfect air density, its perfect balance of
oxygen/nitrogen/and miscillaneous particles and sources for food and shelter were created
by a loving God for man -- the crowning glory of His creation.
We were made to have perfect fellowship with God but that fellowship was broken when
sin entered into man’s experience, and he was no longer fit for heaven and God’s
fellowship. In His grace and mercy, God provided a sacrifice, a way for man to reenter
fellowship wih Him and inherit all things in heaven and earth. He sent His own Son to
remove the curse of sin and satisfy the legall payment for sin, death. In His death on the
cross of Calvary, Jesus Christ made the provision for all mankind to enter a covenent
relationship with God and have fellowship, peace of heart and mind and sonship.
Jesus is outside your life right now, waiting at the door, desiring to be invited in to free
you from sin and guilt, from everlasting hell and to give you everlasting life. Won’t you
bid Him to come in?
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I
will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3: 20).
