Isaac Watts asked: "Am I a soldier of the cross, A follow'r of the Lamb? And shall I fear to own His cause, Or blush to speak His name? Must I be carried to the skies On flow'ry beds of ease, While others fought to win the prize, And sailed through bloody seas?"
Are you a soldier of the cross? Many who claim to be have deserted the field of battle, a crime punishable by death in the military during the time of war.
In spiritual warfare, it produces deadness of life and is blasphemy against the Savior, Jesus Christ. It may result in death. The Lord does sometimes remove one or ones who bring reproach against His holy, wonderful name.
"There is a sin unto death" which it is fruitless and needless for us to pray for. As long as a person's heart is hard against God and His will there is no hope help for him (1 John 1: 16).
God has called us to resist the power of the devil by the power and the Word of Jesus Christ. He has adequately outfitted us for that constant battle of the spirit in our lives. Many times in a combat situation soldiers remove the heavy, hot combersome gear, because they think they are safe. If the enemy should strike at that time it could be disasterous.
God gave spiritual armor to us and P aul urges us to:
"Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to sstand against the wiles of the devil" (Ephesians 6: 11). In 1 Thessalonians 5: 8, he says further, "But let us, who are of the day, be sober (vigilent), putting on the breastplat of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope (full assurance) of salvation."
It is important, above all things to have the helmet of salvation, without a doubt of your eternall destiny, and to let that relationship with God temper or flavor all of your life.
God's armor isn't heavy or clumsy. It enables us to "stand" against all that life has to offer and to remain standing, assured and joyful. Maybe not joyful every minute of the day but overall, joy is the result.
Our vulnerability is girt about with absolute truth from God and our breastplate is the imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 6: 14). We are carried on by and with the the gospel of Jesus Chrsit, our shied is faith in Christ, the helmet is salvation and the Holy Spirit wields the sword, the Word of God, which He swings in precise blows to face the attack of the enemy and to attack the enemy's strong-holds (Ephesians 6: 15-17).
How do we put on the armor and how do we stand in the battle of the Christian life? By prayer, yieldedness to the Holy Spirit of God working in the Word of God. If you are saved the armor is yours. Use it! If you do not know the Lord Jesus as Savior from sin, hell and shame, you need to be introduced to Him. You may wish to go to THE PLAN OF SALVATION
