Haven't seen you around before, though I definitely recognize that nick! I think it literally means "Bear Wolf", a fitting name for a warrior.

Hope to see more of you!

Beowulf,

Its good to see you're still around. I haven't heard from you in a while.

Babyler

P.S. I knew where your name was from. "Legacy of Heorot" and "Beowulf Children" were excellent books.

I don't post much; just "lurk around" and see what everyone has to say.

>>>Beowulf,

Actually, Beowulf was from an earlier generation of plunders and raiders than the Vikings. He was an Anglo-Saxon who lived along the coast of Frisia (I'm sure that's spelled wrong) in Northern Germany. He later became a great prince and died fighting a dragon. "Beowulf" is one of the foundation works of English lit.

Did you ever read "Grendel"? (1 Reply) The Gardener - 06/28/1998 - 01:22:24 P

I think it was written by the same guy that now writes the James Bond 007 series. The name escapes me for the moment

John Gardner wrote "Grendel". However, he's not the same John Gardner who wrote the re-vitalized Bond books in the '80s. *That* John Gardner wrote a couple of revisionist Holmes books called "The Return of Moriarty" and "The Revenge of Moriarty" which postulate that Holmes didn't kill Moriarty at Reichienbach Falls like Doyle said he did. The other John Gardner was a great literary fantasist who died in a motorcycle accident. To complicate matters further, both Gardner's are English.
