My 'sometimes' on-line nickname is Eowyn Shield Maiden from The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien. A lesser known character from the books, but nevertheless an important one, was Eowyn (along with Meriadoc, the hobbit) who killed the Dark Lord of the Nazgul. It had been prophesied that 'no living man (might) hinder (him).' By disguising herself as a horseman/soldier named Dernhelm, she rode with her father's horsemen and helped turn the tide of the war (fulfilling the act which 'no living man' could have done). Full of angst and unhappiness because she loved the great King Aragorn who loved another, she seemed destined to die of unhappiness and the darkness that descends on those touched by the evil Nazgul. It wasn't until she was loved by the noble Faramir that she thawed and learned how to fulfill her own role as a shieldmaiden and Lady of Rohan.
Although I haven't found my 'Faramir,' as yet, I can relate to her feelings of restlessness as the men prepared to ride off to battle without her (so they thought). Sometimes this is a good thing, because it means I will not be held back by traditional ideas and roles.
However, I also seem to decide sometimes that certain noble things will be mine or I'll die trying to achieve them, when in reality, sometimes I need to re-examine my goals and/or motives, and to alter my course of action if I discover the need. Sometimes the things we think will make us happy don't constitute our true path to happiness (if such a thing exists), and we can only achieve happiness if we look in a different place for it.....
and thus Eowyn has spoken.

I have three different nicks I use. The first is eric22. I use this because my name is eric and I am 22 yrs. old. Second is g_cutie. I came up with this nick when I got bored with using the first. I read GQ magizine and decided that I would alter that a little and hence came g_cutie. My third and final nick is my favorite of all. It is rnbwbrit22, which stands for Rainbow Brite 22. Rainbow Brite was one of my favorite cartoons as a child and 22 being my age, well there you have rnbwbrit22. Just tought I would let everyone know. Have a great day.

Like Mab, I too got my name from Celtic mythology. Long ago, when I first entered a chat room, someone warned me before I did that I would be instantly besieged with private messages from randy guys asking, "So what do you look like?" Etain figures in a couple of stories from Celtic myth, and one of them has a somewhat detailed physical description of her which, if you take away all the poetic overexaggeration, is a fair description of me (of particular note is the combination of blond hair and black eyebrows). I chose the name in case I got any such messages; I could then turn around and say, "Go read this book and you'll find out."

I chose my online name by using the nickname my boyfriend gave me: "evarella". He gave me this nickname 6 years ago because everynight at midnight I would say "ok let's go to bed" and he would reply, "Are you turning into a pumpkin, evarella?"
(It's taken from the name Cinderella.)
