Hi Mab, How are You?
I unfortunately do not have a wonderful story about the origination of my nickname. I have had it since I was about 5-6 years old and the whereabouts of its start are lost.
I did think that I would tell you because my nickname is actually "mabs." I am now 27 years old and my nickname is still going strong. My friends and teachers in school have always called me Mabs. (Some people didn't even know it wasn't my real name until years later.)
I can only assume that it was derived from my name "Matthew."
MABS
A note from the Gardener: I think all stories are interesting.
This is NOT The MAB; For those of you that are babylophiles, NOT THE ONE.

Well I am a major X-Phile. I loved the episode "First Person Shooter". I thought that the chick's name (Maitreya) in the game was cool. In the episode they talk her, in person, and her name is Jade Blue Afterglow. That's another one of my many (nicks.)

I spent a lot of my high school in the French classroom trying to learn a second language. It was there that while I wasn't paying attention I would talk to my friends. Through all of this talking (in English) my friends found out that at two seperate occasions I had the name of some classmates wrong.
The first was called0 Minerva, which my friends thought funny because her real name was Jennifer. The second time I thought that some girls last name was Canneloni. We, then, for the rest of the year pretended that she was in the mob and her father would kill us if we got her mad. So we would run and hide when she came in the room and always gave her our place in presenting and just acted crazy. She probably thought that we were the biggest group of weirdos. Anyway, the name is for when I am in a good mood and want to have some laughs.

I had just picked up a 4 month old kitten from the local animal
shelter. She came with the name Minx and I decided not to change
it. At that time I was trying to think up a new handle (at the
time it was just my first name last initial - boooorrring). I
was introducing the kitten to someone and said, "this is Minx and
I'm her Mom".
Voila, a new handle was born.

Hi Patient Gardener, welcome! Like some others, my nickname is my real first name. Just the spelling is different, Monic instead of Monique. The story that could be funny is why I decided to change the spelling. I changed the spelling because I thought back then that it would be easier for people who speak English to pronounce my French name.
It was all to the contrary what happened. Several people asked me how to pronounce Monic when they seemed to know already very well how to pronounce Monique. And even more, a lot of people ask me if I am a man or a woman when they know already very well that Monique is a woman name. Next time I will refrain myself from wanting to simplify things for others!!! :-)

Like Mab, I took the name of a woman to be reckoned with.. Morgan le Fey, but Morgan as characterised in Marion Bradley's "Mists of Avalon", a Druid High Priestess, not the evil version of her you get in traditional Arthur/Avalon stories. The 'hold' bit of my email address comes from Anne McCaffrey's dragon books, where a hold is a safe home.... this is cos 'dragon' is my alternative online nick. Dragons are serpents and serpents figure strongly in pagan religion. I understand the name Morgana means woman of the sea in Celtic and that's me. So my nick sums up a lot of important ideas for me and about me!

As you might guess, the name comes from Morgan Le Fay in the Arthurian legends. She's a fascinating character, as she is both a witch and very beautiful (after all, both Merlin and her half-brother Arthur had affairs with her.) She was a powerful woman who had a great influence behind the scenes of the Celtic legends, and as such, I salute her memory by using her name.

I chose moxie because I thought it most aptly described my personality. I also use Bettie, after Bettie Page because she's a sex symbol.

The first time I read The Hollow Men by T.S. Eliot (way back in high school), the phrase multifoliate rose stuck in my mind.
I thought it was an obscure name, but since going online in 1994, I have been contacted many times by people who wished to use my name and were disappointed it was already taken.
